ZAR 478,597 gross per annum plus benefits
Pretoria
We’re here to make the world a fairer place. Campaigning for economic justice for all is a huge part of that. Develop the strategies that create a level playing field in South Africa, and you’ll help local people reap the rewards of their hard work – and help us change policy internationally.
About the role
There’s no doubt that you’ll be influential. Governments, public opinion and key stakeholders will all be affected by your work. And it will be your long-term vision that helps steer our Economic Justice agenda. Reporting to the Regional Policy Manager, you’ll collaborate with institutions across the region and with key research partners and CSO networks. Your aim? To define and deliver the strategy behind our regional Economic Justice objectives and to create a seamless link with the work of other Policy Coordinators in Governance and Gender. You’ll spend most of your time leading and coordinating policy and campaign work at a regional level. But supporting wider policy advocacy and campaign work will be critical too, and means linking what you do with pan-African and global initiatives. In the process, you’ll be involved in everything from managing campaign budgets and speaking to the media to commissioning research, producing briefing papers and actively lobbying.
About you
Thanks to a thorough knowledge of the factors affecting agriculture, food security, trade and climate change, you’ll already have a good understanding of the relevant policy issues. What’s more, you’ll know how they relate to Southern Africa. And you’ll be familiar with the economic models currently in place as well as the wider social and political contexts they’re used within. Probably equipped with a post-grad qualification in Economics or International Trade and other related fields., You’ll definitely have experience in synthesising policy positions and can develop and negotiate campaign strategies. Add the proven ability to think both strategically and creatively and to solve complex problems, and you could soon be making a real difference at host of different levels.
