Duties: | Innovation Identification, Development and Support - Identify current innovation within LWR programs, and opportunities for innovation in LWR's programs; engage with relevant internal stakeholders to create or integrate new approaches to LWR's work, in alignment with LWR directional goals.
- Lead the emergence and documentation of innovative approaches and best practices; as necessary, write or edit related documents.
- Lead the identification of technical expertise required for high quality proposal preparation and quality programming.
- Lead the development of technical content for selected proposals. Serve as lead writer for selected proposals.
- Build relationships and work with LWR regional teams and regional strategy teams to identify opportunities for collaboration; as assigned, build relationships with external actors for collaboration.
- Lead the development and updating of prioritized materials regarding LWR's innovative approaches and best practices and materials for use in proposals, website and marketing materials, including country and sector profiles.
- Provide strategic and hands-on technical and conceptual guidance, and participate in or lead training for those LWR staff engaged in new business development regarding the pursuit of NBD opportunities.
Research and Learning Map key political, economic and social, as well as donor trends linked to priority program sectors. Research and keep abreast of priority technical areas to support concept and proposal development. Conduct benchmarking research of peer organizations in priority sectors for purposes of competitive intelligence, in the U.S. and internationally. Track changes and trends over time. Subject to annual planning of priorities, engage LWR program staff to expand LWR's technical skills in relief and development programming with a focus on learning and establishment of best practice models. Lead, identify, design and facilitate opportunities for cross-regional learning. Design and develop technical training manuals and other materials for internal use. Represent LWR in technical venues and analyze and disseminate learnings as appropriate. Lead review and analysis of reports and project evaluations submitted by grants management staff to donors, to identify key learnings, emerging areas of technical concern and disseminate as appropriate.
External Marketing of LWR's Technical Expertise Demonstrate leadership in relevant sector forums such as SID, InterAction, and other working groups. Participate in sector events to represent LWR as well as to keep up to date on technical advances/challenges in the sector. Lead and/or participate in the development and implementation of LWR-sponsored events, designed to raise LWR's profile and promote collaboration within the field of international relief and development, and among key institutions and donors. Lead and/or work with relevant staff to develop articles for professional publications related to LWR signature approaches and innovations.
Assist in the development and periodic review of LWR's NBD strategy, policies, procedures, manuals and guidelines. Participate in the LWR Knowledge Management working group. Assist in the NBD coordination to annual operating plans of relevant units Other duties as assigned. Support and collaborate with others in the unit. |
Qualifications: | - Deep commitment to LWR's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in international development, in particular to areas of rural livelihoods.
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated experience in at least two of LWR's priority sectors (Agriculture, Climate Change, Water, Health & Livelihoods, Emergency Response, and Civic Participation). Two or more years' experience working with marginalized populations in economically developing countries to foster community development.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish or French Strong research skills Able to collaborate with a diverse work force. Strong facilitation skills Demonstrated success in publishing of technical articles in professional journals. Experience as the lead proposal writer for successful proposals to USAID, US Department of State and major foundations. - Able to collaborate with a diverse work force.
- Experience with and commitment to working in a very diverse workforce.
Familiarity with Lutheran theology, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities preferred. Ability and affinity for working in teams. Ability to effectively represent organization to internal and external audiences. Ability to travel overseas up to twenty percent (20%) of the time.
