The successful candidate will join a business unit with more than 260 staff who are primarily funded by foundations and Health and Human Services (HHS) clients. Our strategy is to strengthen and expand the current client base and work with other business development staff in the unit and across RTI. Previous experience working in a contract research organization is required and knowledge of business and proposal development processes is essential. A solid understanding of statistics and epidemiologic markets in HHS and other federal agencies is important. We are eager to recruit a professional with experience developing business in commercial and/or international settings where we have a growing portfolio. An individual with strong written and communications skills and a track record of winning new business will be an ideal candidate. The position is based in RTI’s offices in Washington, DC or Rockville, MD.

Responsibilities
• Developing new business in government and commercial markets.
• Apply knowledge of market areas to develop customer contact and communication plans
• Contribute to opportunity growth pipeline
• Participate actively in capture teams and proposal development and review teams
• Understand and articulate client perspectives for technical and programmatic requirements
• Collaborate with research staff in new business opportunities
• Conduct regular account reviews with internal stakeholders
• Assist with the planning and preparation of proposals of significant technical complexity, contract value, or strategic importance
• Represent the business at client meetings and at professional/association and scientific workshops and conferences
• Provide input on strategies for growing core and adjacent services
Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, or related field with 12 or more years of experience, Masters degree in aforementioned fields with at least 9 years or more experience or doctorate degree in aforementioned fields with 6 years or more experience.
• A minimum of 6 years in a business development role
Desirable Qualifications/Attributes
• Prior affiliation with government agencies such as the NIH, SAMHSA, or CDC
• Flexibility, drive, and energy; the ability to manage multiple activities with a broad range of stakeholders
• Experience working in or with international companies
