Job Profile	The Mott MacDonald Group has recently acquired the South African and Botswana consulting engineering practices of Merz and McLellan®. Merz and McLellan’s history in Southern Africa spans a period of 100 years counting all the national and major power utilities as well as mining houses amongst its clients. The South Africa and Botswana operations stem from a separate independent local partnership which Charles Merz set up in Southern Africa in 1937. The practice is currently engaged in a proposed major coal fired IPP power station, an IPP Peaker project, boiler and pressure vessel inspection work in Eskom power stations, EHV transmission new build in Botswana, live line refurbishment and up-rating of HV transmission lines in South Africa and a major network review in Malawi. The acquisition of Merz and McLellan is a part of a strategic initiative to develop the consulting engineering power services of Mott MacDonald/Merz and McLellan in the Southern African and sub-equatorial countries of Africa. The Southern African power business unit will continue to trade under the Merz and McLellan® brand in the region As part of our current plan we are looking to add additional staff to our team and are currently looking for an experienced Gas Turbine consultant to join the team.
Job Description	We provide expertise in all technical, commercial, project management, design, environmental and advisory aspects of thermal power generation, cogeneration, combined heat and power, and desalination. A qualified mechanical engineer with experience in the design and implementation of boiler plant is sought to undertake project development and advisory work on a range of power generation technology projects. The role will include undertaking assignments in Lenders Engineer, Owners Engineer, Technical Advisory, and Due Diligence roles. Clients range from government departments, utilities, Independent Power Developers, Contractors, to international banks and lending institutions. We comprise of a number of teams each headed by a team leader. Project engineers are assigned to a team for management reporting and overall co–ordination of their development. Project work may involve some periods of travel. Responsibilities on a specific assignment will be as defined by the project manager responsible for the project.
Candidate Specification	The area of expertise sought is for boilers, combustion and associated ancillaries for thermal power plant, which should include a comprehensive knowledge of: both HRSG and conventional fired boilers (both sub-critical and super-critical technology); design codes, materials technology and pressure parts; welding; boiler ancillary equipment; fuels (gas, oil, coal, biomass, waste…); materials handling (fuel, ash, limestone); combustion and emissions control equipment. Candidates should be capable of providing advice and input to a range of projects covering specification, design, commissioning and testing, performance monitoring, and operation and maintenance. - Technically competent and IT proficient. - Commercially aware and team player. - Good written and verbal communication skills. - Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. - Relevant experience within a boiler manufacturer, utility, consultancy.
