3. Job Title: Accountant (2)
Reports to: Chief Accountant
Immediate Subordinates: Accounts Assistant
Main Purpose of the Job:
To ensure that all financial records within the given areas of responsibility are accurately written, properly maintained and regular/periodic returns properly compiled and submitted to the Head, Finance.
Key Outputs:
• Established internal controls implemented.
• Organize and supervise receipt and disbursement of funds for the implementation of the programs: payments, planning, programs budgets, developing budgets of costs and incomes
• Accounting and Financial management reports prepared on time.
• Adequate technical support to SRs provided
• Budgets for the SRs are properly coded and posted.
• Funds remitted reconciled with funds received at the SRs
• SR accounts consolidated and periodical financial statements produced
• SR financial control systems monitored
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure that established internal controls are implemented.
• Ensure that monthly, quarterly, annual and other necessary financial reports are prepared and submitted in time.
• Proper and timely bank reconciliations prepared and presented to Head finance for review
• Perform periodic and surprise cash counts to ensure the petty cash system is properly maintained.
• Review all Payment requests for completeness and adequacy of supporting documentation.
• Ensure that activity funds advanced (contingency funds) are accounted for within 48hrs after the completion of such an activity.
• Prepare monthly payrolls in accordance with individual staff appointment letter.
• Ensure that statutory deductions are properly accounted for and remitted to the relevant authorities within the required dates.
• Assist the Head Finance in process of the consolidation of financial statements
• Prepare and submit Variance and other management reports as required.
• Provide technical financial management support to CSO Accountants.
• Ensure proper utilization and timely accountability of funds by all CSO under your jurisdiction.
• Ensure that the CSO manual records are up to date and reconciled with the computerized information, where such information exists.
• Monitor CSO expenditure against budgets to ensure adherence to set financial policies.
• Reconciling funds disbursed to CSOs with actual receipts in the CSO’s Records
• Review all CSO reports (monthly, quarterly, annual and others periodical financial management reports) before being submitted to the Head, Finance.
Requirement:
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS: Accountant
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
1st degree preferably in B.Com (Accounting) or BBA, and a professional qualification; such as 2nd stage ACCA or 3rd stage CPA
Minimum Experience and Exposure:
4 years in a position with heavy accounting responsibilities in a reputable project or organization preferably an NGO Special Knowledge
• Knowledge of financial accounting procedures
• Knowledge of planning, budgeting, reporting and auditing

• Hands-on-computer skills in MS Word, Excel and relevant accounting packages (including NAVISION)
