HANSARD REPORTER

Grade: P1
Reports to: Hansard Editor
Organ/Institution: East African Legislative Assembly (EALA)
Station : EAC Headquarters-Arusha, Tanzania
Main Purpose of the Job:
To produce timely and accur ate verbatim record of the proceedings of the Assembly in both Plenary and Committee meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To record proceedings of the Assembly;
2. Transcribe the recordings of the proceedings of the Assem bly from audio
records;
3. To merge and compile the transcripts from a series of takes recorded during a particular sitting of the Assembly;
4. To perform the First Edit of transcripts as per the requirements of the Hansard Reporting Style Guidelines;
5. To compile the daily contribution log of proceedings;
6. To perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Hansard E ditor;
Qualifications and Experience:
1. A Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, or a Bachelor’s degree in any combination of the following: English Literature; English language Studies; Linguistics
2. Minimum working experience of 5 years as Hansard reporter/Assistant Editor, or Court stenographer with minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute and must be familiar with commonly used transcribing equipment.
Skills and Competencies:
The ideal candidate should have good communication, interpersonal and report writing skills and must be proficient in computer applications; excellent communication and proficiency in the use of computer applications.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
This post is tenable on a five (5) year contract term renewable once upon satisfactory performance and is subject to the application of the EAC Quota System.
In line with the provisions of the EAC Staff Rules and Regulations, Candidates whose age will be 55 years at the time of appointment will not be eligible.
