Akuem, South Sudan - The Program Manager, Health and Hygiene is a part of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) management team in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, South Sudan. The Program Manager, Health and Hygiene reports to the WASH Program Manager and is responsible for Health and Hygiene and Community Water Management curriculum development, program implementation and oversight and WASH monitoring and evaluation. At this juncture in the program, refining current programming and developing new curriculum for program expansion will be priorities. Areas for expansion include developing household latrine curriculum, and an emergency response curriculum. Additionally, because Samaritan’s Purse (SP) is very active in the state WASH cluster, the Health and Hygiene Manager may play a role in directing state health and hygiene activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage the Health and Hygiene (H&H) component of WASH programming in Northern Bahr el Ghazal. • Recruit, hire, and manage the Health and Hygiene and Community Water Management (CWM) staff, ensuring that necessary duties are performed. Such duties include: household baseline assessments, household surveys, and trainings. • Train H&H staff on curriculum and teaching methods. • Refine and adapt existing curriculum with an emphasis on incorporating the Gospel, aiming at long term behavior change, and improving sanitation behaviors. • Develop new curriculum for H&H program expansion in conjunction with WASH Program Manager and Programs Officer as appropriate (possibilities for expansion include school, latrine, and emergency programming). • Ensure that internal reports and H&H and CWM components of donor reports are completed and submitted. • Manage and coordinate logistics, purchasing, and inventory control for health and hygiene materials. • Oversee staff to ensure that proper data is being collected for monitoring and evaluation purposes. • Work with Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) officer to ensure that appropriate surveys are conducted and data is analyzed throughout the WASH program. • Engage with H&H segment of state WASH cluster. • Make changes and adaptations to program implementation for problematic situations. • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors and volunteers. • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public. • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.

• 10 Health and Hygiene promoters • 1 Health and Hygiene team leader • 2 researchers/surveyors • 1 data entry clerk
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and the training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • One year of college-level Biblical studies is preferred. • Demonstrated management experience in a developing country. • Experience in health and hygiene activities in a developing country. • Firm understanding of project/grant cycle management. • Strong organizational and communication skills. • Flexible and adaptable according to the needs of the project. • Must be culturally sensitive and have respect for church leaders from all denominations. • Expertise with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and preferably Microsoft Access. • Arabic language skills preferred but not required. • Dinka preferred, but not required.
