Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a non-for profit research and training institute whose mission is todevelop and sustain a district-based health research and resource centre capable of generating new knowledge and relevant information for public health policy and actions. IHI is among the leading healthresearch institutions in Africa. In its research site in Ifakara, Morogoro Region, IHI runs a clinical HIV cohort (KIULARCO), a community cohort on chronic disease (MZIMA) and a demographic healthsurveillance system (HDSS).
IHI invites applications from interested, suitable and qualified Tanzanians to join the data analysis team
for the above research platforms at the Ifakara site.
POSITION: RESEARCH SCIENTIST (EPIDEMIOLOGIST / STATISTICIAN)
REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS
LOCATION: IFAKARA
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with IHI research groups in the design, planning, and analysis of scientific projects
within KIULARCO, DSS and MZIMA cohorts
Provide support to the core data management staff in the definition, set-up and description of
standard operating procedures for data management
Generate data queries for quality control
Contribute to the ongoing development and operation of the cohort/ system’s reporting tools
Process various short data analysis requests
Assist with other projects at IHI based on discussions with the project leaders or head of
thematic unit
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
MSc degree in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or related area; MPH holders with high marks forepidemiology and biostatistics and minimum 2 years experience in data analysis will be considered
Good programming skills in STATA, SAS, or R
Proficient application of data management procedures, including range and consistency
checks, linking of relational database tables, data cleaning, coding, and labeling
Ability to independently perform multivariate analysis for binary and continuous outcome
measures
Ability to perform longitudinal analysis and hierarchical analysis is an added advantage
