JOB TITLE: Environmental Management Officer (1 Post)
DUTY STATION: Dar es Salaam
REPORTS TO: Director Quality and Safety
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Environmental Management Officer (EMO) has the primary responsibility for
assuring that the appropriate structure is in place to develop and implement the EMS.
As needed, within the scope of the EMO's employment, the EMO will assign
responsibility for specific tasks and make assignments to HSE Team members and
other personnel. The EMO does this by:
a) Coordinating the Company's activities regarding the development,
implementation and maintenance of the Safety, Health and Environmental
Program
b) Recommending to the Director of Quality, Safety and Environment the Safety,
Health and Environmental programs and policies to be developed and proposing
amendments to such policies and programs where necessary
c) Preparation of an annual report on Safety, Health and Environment activities
undertaken to ensure compliance with Occupational Health & safety-OSHA,
Environmental Management Act -EMA and ISO 14001 standard.
d) Collecting, collating, and producing periodic Industrial Safety and Environmental
reports and/or information so as to identify significant HSE trends for action by
management
e) Conducting HSE inspections and surveys of operational systems, infrastructure
and procedures affecting or likely to affect the company operations and assess
risk exposure.
f) Following up and verification of implementation of the HSE recommendations
developed by the Health, Safety and Environmental Committee's (HSE) to
continuously improve and maintain safety and environmental protection.
g) Promoting a culture within the company to raise the level of safety and
environmental awareness.
h) Investigating workplace, ground and environmental incidents/accidents and
make appropriate corrective/preventive recommendations to the
relevant/affected department/sections while assisting the Responsible Managers
achieve effective implementation of the recommended actions.
i) Preparation, production, and dissemination of HSE information bulletin to raise
health, safety and environmental awareness.
j) Conducting periodic ground and workplace HSE audits for company and third
party organizations to assure compliance with company policy and requirements
as well as industry for management decision.
k) Ensuring effective and appropriate communication and coordination with
relevant regulatory Authorities, customer airlines, contractors over matters
concerning Industrial Safety and Environment with a view to agreeing on
solutions common concerns.
l) Ensuring procurement sections take into consideration HSE aspects during
Company merchandises purchasing.
m) Facilitating meetings for Health, Safety and Environmental Committees and
ensure that such meetings are held as per schedule.
n) Coordinating Emergency Preparedness and Response Drills in all in areas as
may be required.
o) Be aware of changes in applicable regulatory provisions/Codes of Practices and
ensure compliance.

Education, Qualification and Experience Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, or any
closely related field
Minimum of 2-3 years experience working in similar activities
Working experience in similar environment (Waste/Environmental Management).
