Futures Group/Zambia seeks a candidate for the position of Senior Research Advisor based in Lusaka, Zambia. The post holder will manage a large program evaluation, with responsibility for data collection, analysis and use, over three rounds of annual data collection.
Key Responsibilities
Working in collaboration with the STEPS OVC team, the Senior Research Advisor will:
- Lead the implementation of a large, 3-year OVC program evaluation in line with global best practice and standards
- Train data collectors to collect high quality data; monitor data quality
- Analyze all data and lead report writing
- Mentor our local partner in data collection and analysis, transitioning greater research management responsibility to the local partner over time
- Liaise with USG, program staff, and research staff working across organizations to carry out the evaluation and build evaluation capacity
- Support use of information among program staff and Government at all levels
Qualifications
- PhD in monitoring and evaluation, public health, child development, social work, community development, psychology, economics, or a related field
- 7+ years of conducting and managing research and evaluation, including research in community-based settings
- Sound understanding of indicators, data collection methodology, data quality issues; ability to develop indicators and data collection tools and assess data quality;
- Knowledge of and interest in issues affecting orphans and vulnerable children, and people affected by HIV
- Experience in strengthening the demand for data and facilitating the use of information in the decision-making process at different levels
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating meetings with broad groups of stakeholders including Government, international donors, universities, programs and communities;
- Demonstrated skills in research training and capacity building through technical assistance and mentoring. This includes strong skills in public speaking, curriculum development, and delivering trainings and workshops;
- Demonstrated quantitative skills, including use of Microsoft Excel, SAS, or SPSS, and skills in analyzing, interpreting and communicating information to a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong writing skills with publication record
- Willingness to work with a team of Zambian and US-based staff in a challenging environment with short deadlines and a demanding portfolio of activities;
- Willingness to travel throughout Zambia routinely
- Position is open to Zambian or third country nationals.
