PLAN INTERNATIONAL KENYA ADVOCACY MANAGER


Plan International Inc. Kenya is seeking to recruit for the position of Advocacy Manager based at the Country Office. The job holder reports to the Strategic Program Support Manager. The position had no direct reports but plays a very instrumental role in ensuring the uptake of child focused rights based advocacy processes at the country level and at the PU’s through the PUMs and the Program Coordinators. The position also link closely with at a lateral level with the Research and Documentation to develop evidence base/case for advocacy engagement. Additionally, the job holder works very closely child rights and gender advisor on advocacy agenda setting and with the communication and ICT 4 D to adopt creative channels for sourcing and relaying the advocacy messages. The jobholder also manages a budget at the KCO for the national level advocacy engagements including campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
 Advocacy strategy for Plan Kenya including guidelines and processes for participatory advocacy
 Ensuring Plan Kenya’s participation in relevant policy advocacy processes
 Responsible for regular progress management reports on advocacy work at national level
 Promote legal and human rights issues pertaining to Child Rights among Plan members and other stakeholders
 Strategic partnerships, networks and alliances to support advocacy work
 Ensure coordinated National and County advocacy campaigns and initiatives
 Increased visibility of Plan Kenya programs as a result of advocacy work
 Coordinated organizational and staff capacity assessment and plan appropriate capacity building on participative advocacy as per the capacity needs identified.
Educational Qualifications
 Bachelors Degree in Development related field preferably International Human Rights, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender & Development, Political Science, and Public Policy Administration. Masters degree will be added advantage.
 At least 3 years of relevant work experience in Advocacy, Child Rights and Gender in a National or International
 Experience right based approaches to development.
 Working with coalitions and within multi-agency forums.
 Engaging with governments and/or multilateral institutions especially at National level.
 Articulate both verbally and in writing, including the provision of policy analysis, position statements
