LEGAL ADVISOR 1. Core mission of Position: Provide legal and advisory support and oversight to the Team in charge of International Criminal Cases. 2. Service Agency: National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) 3. Specific tasks: a. Provide legal and advisory support and oversight to Prosecutor-General, Deputy Prosecutor- General and trial teams on cases transferred to Rwanda from ICTR and various national jurisdictions ensuring proper due process standards are met. b. Serve as liaison to ICTR OTP and to other constituents in Rwanda and abroad (government ministries, NGOs etc.) c. Conduct legal research and analysis; assist with case preparation and strategy development. d. Assist and advice with drafting of legal documents: indictments, motions, responses, briefs and correspondence. e. Assist with disclosure practices. f. Oversee witness-proofing practices and assist trial team in pre-testimony preparation. g. Attend trial and advice on oral advocacy practices and interlocutory objections and oral motions. h. Organize, attend and present at conferences, workshops and trainings as requested. i. Assist with the establishment of the East African Genocide/ International Crimes Network. j. Provide technical expertise and assist in capacity- building. k. Provide any other legal or advisory function as deemed necessary by the Office of the Prosecutor-General. 4. Required Profiles a. Having 5 years of experience in international criminal law preferably having worked with UN courts (ICTR,ICTY) 4 b. Minimum Master’s degree in law; c. Be familiar with conducting Legal research; d. Having an good knowledge of English and French e. Well knowledge in penal process and procedures. 5. Reporting line – The legal Advisor will report to the Prosecutor General.
