Born to Learn and Grassroots Tanzania are two not for profit companies operating at the grassroots level in Tanzania. Sharing a passion for the environment and zeal for innovative education that delivers tangible results of self reliance and sustainability, they are seeking a Partnership Manager to bring to life their partnership: 'Kutenda sio maneno' to fruition.

Based on the 'two heads is better than one' principle, they believe that by working in partnership, sharing their expertise, they can deliver more effective programs: Born to Learn leading the way with their educational initiatives and Grassroots Tanzania delivering a range of conservation activities including nurseries, tree planting and beekeeping. Likeminded, both organisations operate as not for profit business enabling long term a sustainable business model that enable each of them to finance their work. Both organisations also support volunteers, who by virtue of age, experience and aspirations seek varied activities which together can be catered for.

We are URGENTY seeking a Partnership Manager to move to Tanzania and develop this partnership. Equipped with project management skills and experience fundraising, you will responsible for the development of this relationship from the beginning, through execution as well as bringing your expertise in monitoring, evaluation and reporting following implementation.

It is essential that you have 5 years work experience as well fluency in English and Spanish. This role offers accommodation and meals and a small living stipend. You must be able to fund your return flights and visa costs. The role is for a minimum of 1 year, but suitable for someone seeking a longer term position (2 years +).

This is an amazing opportunity for the right person with plenty of scope to impact the work of both these organisations. Applications are sought immediately and interviews (via Skype) are ongoing. Reporting to: Samantha Peñalver, Founding Director of Born to Learn and
Charlie Hopley, Founding Director of Grassroots Tanzania
Job Purpose: To establish and develop new charities partnership including design, development and implementation in rural Tanzania.

Terms:
  • 1 year MINIMUM (volunteer position).
  • Accommodation (in Moshi) and meals provided, as well as a small living stipend.
  • Hours of work: 9 – 5.30am, 4 weeks holiday.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work
  • Must be willing to work in the remote parts of Tanzania
Job Description:
  • Undertake strategic development of partnership
  • Fundraise for partnership (corporate, individuals, grant proposal writing, and events) as well as reporting to donors.
  • Manage local fundraising events
  • Be responsible for all financial reporting under the Partnership including record keeping and budgeting
  • Design, develop and implement of relevant volunteer programs
  • Other tasks as required by the Directors
Personal specification:
You must have the ability to commit to a minimum of 1 year. There is the potential for this role to be extended after the completion of this period.

Essential:
Degree educated (or equivalent)
Minimum 5 years work experience
Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish
Experience developing strategic partnerships
Knowledge of fundraising from various sources including grants
Experience managing accounts and budgets
Project Management methodology and implementation
Willingness to work with limited resources
Ability to multi-task with an adaptable/flexible approach to one's work as well as cope with ambiguity

Ability to travel to remote parts of the country and the willingness to live simply (without running water and electricity, simple diet)

Desirable:
  • Experience of living and working in Africa
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Willingness to learn Kiswahili
Living in Tanzania:
At the current time, the position will be located in Moshi, Moshi-Kilimanjaro; however, a willingness to travel to remote parts of Tanzania is essential. Our first location is at Itumba Hill Singida Farm, 5 hours south of Manyoni. There is no running water or electricity at the farm, nor any western luxuries. When travelling to the farm (or equivalent locations) you will be in tented accommodation with meals provided. These are local dishes.

Supporting your living costs in Moshi, you will need to consider:
  • Flights to/from home destination
  • Visa application process USD 550 p.a, plus TSH 100,000 processing fee
  • International medical insurance (essential)
  • Funds for personal travel, holiday time and entertainment
In addition, a yellow fever certificate is essential as well as being up to date with your immunisations. Anti-malarials are recommended.
