SPARK is a growing, young, dynamic development NGO with 80 staff members in offices in Amsterdam, Belgrade, Bujumbura, Juba, Kigali, Monrovia, Mitrovica, Pristina and Ramallah. SPARK develops higher education and entrepreneurship, so that young ambitious people are empowered to lead their post-conflict society into prosperity.
SPARK is achieving its mission by organizing business plan competitions, business skills training, SME coaching & mentoring, business incubation, SME financing, intensive higher vocational summer courses, curriculum development and quality assurance at universities and higher vocational education institutions.
SPARK is looking for a fulltime (40 hrs/week) Regional Finance Manager / Project Controller (m/f) to supervise the financial activities of SPARK in Africa and the Middle East. Another important aspect of the job will be to provide financially oriented trainings to SPARK finance personnel and the partners that we cooperate with in the region. He /She reports to SPARK’s Head of Finance in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and will be based in Kigali, Rwanda.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
• Develop trainings for / Build the capacity of regional / local partners in the financial field; • Supervise all SPARK financial activities taking place Africa & the Middle East, including at least 4 Finance officers; • Provide on-the-job coaching to the Finance officers and train them in the partner capacity building component; • Assure all financial, procurement, registration and labor matters are conducted in line with international (donor) standards and relevant local legislation; • Prepare necessary reports for donors and other external authorities in cooperation with SPARK Amsterdam.
Requirements & Skills:
• Higher (Master or equivalent) degree in Economics, Accounting, (business) administration, auditing or related field; • At least ten years experience in a financial position or as an auditor, of which at least four years in a supervising position; • Experience in and knowledge of developing / maintaining (Financial) Internal control and risk management concepts and systems; • Experience with giving & developing trainings; • Accurate, structured and precise; • Extensive experience with bookkeeping systems and Microsoft excel; • Knowledge of applicable local laws and regulations (income-, business taxes, etc); • Excellent oral and written language skills in English; • Good oral and written language skills in French; • Knowledge of Arabic language is a plus; • Excellent communication and social skills and able to work in a multicultural setting; • Good team worker while able to work independently.
SPARK Offers:
• 40 hrs/week contract; • Contract for 1 year initially, with the possibility to extend; • Remuneration depending on background, education and experience (between euro 3.000 – 3.500 gross); • Dynamic working experience within an international working environment; • The opportunity to be part of exciting development cooperation projects.
