  • Serves as DRCOG’s lead economist, providing management of the socioeconomic team and developing the economic forecast for the region, including a wide-variety of economic, demographic, and policy information.
  • Develops the methodology for the preparation and collection of data, including its economic analysis and related forecasts.
  • Conducts economic modeling, formulating econometric models when required in project work.
  • Provides economic information for the organization's planning and public policy activities.
  • Participates in all aspects of socioeconomic research, analysis and modeling and facilitates responses to public data and information requests.
  • Works with Communications and Marketing to disseminate new publications and updated materials produced by the socio-economic team.
  • Writes research reports, studies, and summaries.
  • Works with DRCOG’s core information to provide internal and external stakeholders with relevant and timely information on regional economic issues.
  • Prepares and delivers public presentations on regional economic issues.
  • Supervises and motivates staff through collaboration, training, and team-building.
  • Coordinates the work of consultants/contractors and other employees who are assigned to specific projects.
  • Supports the organizational development of DRCOG.
  • Ensures the highest quality and level of customer satisfaction with the work of the socioeconomic team.
  • Identifies and understands economic, political, and social trends that affect a program/project.
  • Enables and facilitates regional collaboration.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expert working knowledge of:
    - interpretation of analytical data from various sources,
    - project management and budgeting,
    - statistical analysis and econometric theory and methods.
  • Requires a working knowledge of regional development issues and principles (such as transportation, land use,
    and environmental issues).
  • Ability to:
    - effectively communicate in writing and verbally,
    - conduct public presentations,
    - establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships necessary to effectively interact with all pertinent stakeholders.
    - independently manage large/complex, multi-year projects.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a master's degree in economics, urban economic geography, planning, public administration, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of four years of applicable experience, including experience in the theory and practice of micro- and macro-economics, including principles and approaches of urban and regional economics; socioeconomic research, with an emphasis on demographics, regional labor and employment markets, regional real estate and development processes, and urban and regional policy; spatial analytical and modeling techniques (including the use of GIS) desirable.
  • Two years’ of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of applicable education and experience.

STATUS: Full-time, Exempt

SALARY: Grade 9, Hiring range: $5,383 - $6,598/month depending on qualifications. Full range: $5,383 - $7,803/month depending on qualifications.
