Vuna is a three- to five-year, DFID-funded agricultural systems development programme for East and Southern Africa. It aims to increase the climate resilience of vulnerable farming communities across the region by creating the foundations for a transformational change in the way that smallholder farmers are enabled to practice "climate smart agriculture".
Main Responsibilities
Representation and high-level liaison:
a) Acts as the lead contact of the programme in the country for all senior stakeholders.
b) Convenes with key local stakeholders through various engagement platforms and acts as "the face of" Vuna.
c) Develops relationships with key local stakeholders (private sector, public, donor / development agencies - particularly DFID in-country offices - Civil Society Organisations, Farmer Organisations, research / policy institutions, etc.)
d) Facilitates the work of other VUNA team members, consultants and advisors, by acting as liaison and arranging meetings with senior stakeholders, as required.
e) Responsible for the overall risk management in Tanzania
f) Maintains administrative systems, ensuring appropriate and adequate financial / operational and technical reporting
g) Contributes to monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting to meet contract requirements for Vuna, ASI, and DFID.
Portfolio identification and oversight:
a) Leads in the identification of relevant value chains and potential partners, for Vuna's project interventions, in the country, and in the discussion and development of project ideas with those potential partners.
b) Works with Facility Leads to ensure generation, development, and maintenance of country-level TA and grantee pipeline, working with relevant grants and senior technical teams (e.g. Technical Review Committee, Evaluation Panel)
c) Leads the preparation of in-country projects, through the project cycle including identification / scoping, concept / Project Plan / RFP development.
d) Oversees implementation of Vuna-supported projects in country, trouble-shooting challenges and reporting to Vuna Team Leader on risks, challenges, and opportunities.
e) Supports Grants Manager in facilitating aspects of the grants cycle for potential in-country grantees / implementers as relevant
f) Optimises Vuna's technical interventions by coordinating grantee institutional capability building with local providers where appropriate.
Consultancy and Project Team Leadership (optional - there is the ability to work beyond 6-8 days per month)
a) Provides her / his consultancy skills on specific project interventions, as confirmed in formal Project Plans.
b) Leads project intervention teams, as confirmed in formal Project Plans.
