Position Summary:
Land O’Lakes seeks Accountant and Procurement Specialist for a dairy genetics project. This position will be responsible for tracking and monitoring project expenditures, leading and maintaining all procurement processes and records, and managing accounting systems in compliance with donor requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Ensuring that all program expenses are processed in accordance with Land O’Lakes financial policies, procedures, rules and regulations;
Overseeing grants accounting functions;
Preparing and handling the accounting reports such as (but not limited to) bank reconciliation;
Reviewing petty cash reimbursements, invoicing, payments requests, travel and accommodation;
Maintaining local accounts and processing monthly payroll;
· Monitor all project spending and assist the project development and implementation teams as they prepare and revise budgets;
Maintaining financial management files for all local transactions as required by donor regulations and Land O’Lakes’ policies, including but not limited to filing of general ledger journal vouchers, accounts payable documentation, and other miscellaneous financial expenses; and
Preparation of a comprehensive procurement plan that will achieve the objectives of the project.
· Demonstrate the highest degree of integrity throughout all activities, and raise any concerns with implementation quality immediately with the supervisor and COP.
Preparation of tender documents which are in line with Land O’Lakes own policies.
Convening and supporting Procurement Committee to evaluate bids
Help in the preparation of contracts for the chosen suppliers.
Facilitate the obtaining of authorities from appropriate approving officers.
Monitoring performance of suppliers against the contract awards.
Make recommendations on the payments to the suppliers as per signed contracts.
Maintain adequate and verifiable documents, including instructions and flow charts, which support the whole procurement process right up to the beneficiaries.
Carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor
Reporting & Supervision:
The Accountant and Procurement Specialist will report directly to the Finance Manager.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience in accounting and/or financial management;
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field;
Experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data;
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe applications, QuickBooks and advanced proficiency in Excel;
Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines;
Excellent interpersonal skills; and
Fluency in English.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
CPA, MBA, or Masters of Accounting or Finance.
Master’s degree in relevant field desired but not required.
Prior international donor experience is strongly preferred.
