Internship, WFP Logistics and Transports Services Unit

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the Logistics & Transport Service of the Logistics Division. The position will be based at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

The Internship will be for an initial period of 6 months starting from 1 October 2015. Description The selected candidate will be assisting the Bilateral Logistics Service Provision Unit (BLSP) with a focus on in communications and information management.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to gain an insight into the growing field of bilateral logistics services to external organisations with a particular focus on operations in Africa and Asia.

• Assist in providing remote operational support to COs and Regional Bureaux's engaged in bilateral logistics service provision activities.
• Play a key role in supporting the development of interagency shipping initiatives on behalf of several organisations.
• Support the team in developing new, multimodal logistics service packages to UN and international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) from inception to implementation.
• Create briefing documents for management meetings with external organisations - translating various sources of data into meaningful and clear messaging.
• Review and consolidate the weekly BLSP sitreps for the Global Logistics Report.
• Organise and attend meetings with internal WFP units and/or external UN/INGOs ensuring outcomes and action points are documented.
• Write articles on logistics operations for internal and external platforms.
• Assist with consolidating data on transport services provided to humanitarian partners across key operations.
• Perform other duties as required.

Essential Requirements

• Currently enrolled or have recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Logistics, Business Management or Communications;
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study;
• Have attended courses in the last 12 months;
• Proficiency in MsOffice (Word, Excel, Power Point);
• Fluency in English and strong writing skills;
• Knowledge of humanitarian logistics;
• Strong interpersonal skills and a can do approach;

Terms and Conditions

• Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the amount of US$700 per month depending on the duty station.
• WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from WFP internship location, necessary visas and costs related.
