The United Nation's World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. In 2014, WFP provided food assistance to more than 80 million people in 82 countries. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position at our Geneva Office. The internship will be for an initial period of three months. WFP will give preference to candidates who are able to work full time.
The WFP Office in Geneva serves as WFP's corporate interface with humanitarian partners - Member States, sister UN agencies, civil society and private sector -- based in Geneva with the view of enhancing WFP's contributions to outcomes of inter-agency and intergovernmental processes, operational and normative policy development, public information and investing in strategic partnerships for Zero Hunger.
Under the overall guidance of the Director, WFP Geneva Office, and under the direct supervision of the Chief Spokesperson, Geneva, the Intern will be responsible for the following duties (these duties are generic and thus not all inclusive)
Assist the Chief Spokesperson with:
- Preparing background material for UN media briefings and press conferences
- Preparing updated material for Spokesperson's interviews
- Disseminating press releases and other relevant documents to media on a timely basis
- Translating text into English and French
- Organizing activities and events, such as international days, photo exhibitions, etc.
- Monitoring UN press conferences of interest to WFP and preparing notes for the record
- Supporting press briefings for WFP Senior Management visiting Geneva
- Searching for new media contacts and updating databases
- Monitoring media coverage of WFP in Swiss newspapers and other media outlets
- Drafting presentations and articles for WFP's website and other media (e.g. UN magazine) Participating in WFP social media activities, monitoring online trends (Twitter, in particular), preparing photo galleries
- Monitoring media Talking Points and humanitarian websites on a daily basis
- Drafting internal office fact sheets on current crises

Essential Requirements (non-negotiable)
- Be currently enrolled or have recently graduated from a Master's degree in Political Science, International Affairs, Development, Communications or other relevant field;
- in both circumstances have attended courses in the last 12 months
- Have proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);

- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the amount of US$700 per month (paid in local currency)
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from WFP internship location, necessary visas and related costs.
