The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill internship positions under the Environmental Sustainability team, in the Facilities Management Unit of the Management Services division, based in Rome, Italy. Internships will be available for a period of 3 months minimum, starting from mid-November 2015.
Description
The selected candidates will be assisting the Environmental Sustainability team with the following key duties, depending on the needs of the unit at different times of the year
- Under the supervision of the team leader, liaise with country offices to assist in the collection and analysis of energy usage and other data for calculating WFP's greenhouse gas emissions for 2013 (buildings, vehicles and official travel);
- Following full training, utilise the ARCHIBUS facilities management software to store and analyse these data;
- Assist in preparing Greenhouse Gas Footprint feedback reports to WFP country offices;
- Document any data anomalies or new work practices identified during the inventory process, for integration into WFP's Inventory Data Management Plan;
- Working under supervision, research and prepare responses to queries from field colleagues on environmental improvement issues;
- Under supervision, develop environmental awareness-raising materials for use in educational campaigns that aim to drive energy-saving and other sustainable behaviours at work;
- Contribute to the research and drafting of environmental policies (or the integration of environmental aspects into existing WFP policies and standard operating procedures), and of templates, tools, and other support materials to help WFP colleagues worldwide to measure and manage environmental impacts;
- Research and write news articles and short case studies on recent environmental improvements at WFP for publication on the GreeningWFP and Greening the Blue websites;
- Update and maintain the WFP Environmental Sustainability resource library (electronic documents and online references).
Essential Requirements
- Currently enrolled or have recently graduated from a University degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering or related discipline;
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study;
- Have attended courses in the last 12 months;
- Proficiency in MsOffice (Word, Excel, Power Point);
- Fluent in English; knowledge of a second UN language is an advantage.
Terms and Conditions
- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the amount of US$700 per month depending on the duty station.
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, travel to and from WFP internship location, necessary visas and costs related.
