BACKGROUND

Internews is part of a consortium implementing the Tanzania Peace and Election Program to support media in providing accurate political and civic education information and supporting citizen engagement in political processes before during and after the general elections in October 2015. Activities include monitoring online and social media and using interactive feedback tools to track election related topics and detect possible inflammatory speech, disinformation, rumors voting fraud allegations etc. Internews will also train and mentor both new/online and traditional media actors on effective use of social media for elections coverage and audience interaction. All these activities will involve close coordination with other international and national consortium partners engaged in similar areas. Internews activities will be overseen for the duration of the project by local staff. The role of the innovation advisor is to work with them to set up appropriate systems and train them in their use.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify appropriate tools and systems for tracking election -related online and social media conversations and enhancing citizen feedback on election issues;
• Assist in hiring and training Internews local staff who will implement these monitoring and feedback activities;
• Lead a training workshop in Dar es Salaam for new/online and traditional media actors on effective use of social media for elections coverage and engagement of audiences;
• Work with partner organizations to set up interactive multimedia platforms for citizen engagement in electoral and other political processes;
• Set up e-newsletter distribution system for circulating monitoring reports to interested parties;
• Submit a report on tasks carried out with recommendations for ongoing implementation of activities;
• Provide inputs to project work and M& E plans, as required;
• Report to Project Director.
