Tullow Uganda has opened applications for the 2013/14 Tullow Group Scholarship Scheme (TGSS) aimed at supporting national participation in Uganda’s oil and gas industry, the oil company said on Jan.9.
Under the 2013/14 Tullow Group Scholarship Scheme, the company is offering 20 university education opportunities to Ugandan nationals in study fields including; engineering and technology, environment and geosciences, oil and gas economics, business Journalism, logistics and supply Chain, law and legal courses, and other applied sciences with the exception of medicine.
The scheme is open to candidates who want to make a real contribution to the future of Uganda. Applications for the scholarships open from Jan.9, and close on Feb. 13, 2013.
The programme is fully managed by the British Council and is designed to support postgraduate degrees, technical training and vocational studies at leading universities in the UK in an effort aimed at bridging the human resource gap in Uganda’s young oil and gas and associated industries.
TGSS which forms a key part of Tullow’s overall approach to education and capacity building aims at addressing both existing industry skills gaps and national capacity development requirements.
Rosalind Kainyah, Vice President External Affairs Tullow Oil Plc said: "The Tullow Group Scholarship Scheme attracted nearly 7,000 applicants last year, and more than 90 scholars are currently studying at universities in Europe. We have a long-term commitment to our host countries, so we are very happy to be starting the second year of the scheme.”
