The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) is an independent knowledge and expertise centre in the areas of international and intercultural cooperation.
KIT Development Policy & Practice is KIT’s main department for development cooperation, specializing in health, education, social development and gender equity, and sustainable economic development. The multi-disciplinary team in the Health Area has strong capabilities in research, evaluation, consultancy and post-graduate education. We are passionate about understanding and strengthening the contribution of communities and health systems towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). Our external portfolio is seeing an increase in the demand for our services on public-private cooperation and governance questions, particularly related to the role of Performance-Based Financing (PBF) in French-speaking countries and UHC strategies in pluralistic health systems. In our projects, we always work in strong partnership with institutes from the global south.
We seek to recruit one advisor/researcher with a specific focus on governance and finance for UHC and RBF within our team.
Senior Health Systems Advisor / Health Researcher
Main responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate health sector responses (policies, strategies, interventions, tools, guidelines and manuals).
- Strengthen the capacity of partners in contributing to the generation of a stronger evidence base for designing health system interventions, most notably related to RBF/PBF and Universal Health Coverage.
- Contribute to the health systems development portfolio. Contribute to national and international policy dialogue for health systems.
- Contribute to developing and implementing post-graduate education programmes. Identify and further develop opportunities through pro-active acquisition, tendering and networking with potential funding partners and/or mechanisms.
Appointment is initially for two years, with the possibility of extension.
We ask
- Relevant academic degrees including post graduate qualifications (preferably PhD) in health systems research and/or health economics.
- Minimum of 7 years working experience in developing countries in the field of health policy, RBF/PBF, health systems strengthening and quality of care, health finance / health insurance, public-private partnerships (PPP) in health, institutional development related to international health.
- Experience in training, teaching, curriculum development, training of trainers, and quality assurance will be an advantage.
- Demonstrated academic writing ability.
- Good organization, communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as being a good team player.
- Ability to travel abroad regularly.
- Strong entrepreneurial skills, with proven success in acquiring large-scale projects
- Proficiency, orally and in writing English and French is required.
The salary based on age, qualifications and experience, between € 3.350,- and € 5.233,- gross per month for a 38-hour working week. In addition, there is an 8% holiday allowance and admission to the KIT pension fund (ABP).
