POSITION SUMMARY: SWAAZ is currently implementing an Education Project focusing on advancing the education of vulnerable boys and girls in Lusaka and Ndola. Funded by Lessons for Life Foundation (UK), the project provides educational materials, uniforms, school fees and pastoral support to sponsored children, helping them to progress through their education.
The Project Coordinator is required to oversee project implementation. The Project Coordinator maintains a data base of information for each child on sponsorship and monitors school performance through field visits, interaction with schools authorities, parents and the communities where these children come from. The Project Coordinator is expected to forge close working relationships with schools, to ensure all activities are implemented according to agreed standards, produce high quality termly reports and closely monitor the performance of students. The post-holder is also required to implement livelihoods activities for the most vulnerable households and to provide continued support to all students. She/he is expected to be a self-driven individual conversant with the national educational policy as well as relevant child protection guidelines and statutes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Project Coordinator will coordinate the implementation of the SWAAZ- Lesson for Life Education Programme. Key Roles and responsibilities will include the following:
This position reports to the Executive Director.
• Prepare Termly Work Plans and implement all agreed activities as per the LFL implementation guidelines
• Respond to requests for information and updates from SWAAZ management and LFL
• Facilitate participatory selection of students based on the agreed selection criteria
• Collect and analyse monitoring data on access, performance, retention and completion of students particularly in primary and secondary schools.
• Conduct assessment for vulnerable children to be placed on scholarship
• Prepare termly budgets for student costs and monitoring as may be required from time to time
• Maintain accurate data on all aspects of the project, including student lists – in both soft and hard files.
• Ensure that the project functions efficiently in all matters and is compliant with donor requirements.
• Conduct field support visits to ensure school attendance and performance of children
• Conduct periodical home visits to assess household conditions
• Hold periodical meetings with school heads and guidance teachers to get feedback on the impact/challenges of the sponsorship
• Facilitate the formation of an alumni of students sponsored through the programme and provide support to the group to come up with activities in their communities.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual activity reports
• Develop funding applications to address emerging issues not covered by the project
• Any other duties assigned within the project
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
• Degree in Social work, Education, Development studies, or gender studies or an equivalent
• Three years relevant experience, preferably in donor or NGO
• Knowledge or experience of working in schools and communities
• Demonstrate knowledge, skills or experience in planning and proposal writing
• Excellent planning, management and organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with project stakeholders, staff at all levels of the organization and community members
• High level of computer literacy including extensive experience with MS Office suite pro grammes (out look, Excel, Word and Power point)
