PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The Senior Manager: Engineering assists the Vice President - Process and Engineering Design, Planning and Business Development, Continental Africa Region in the planning and execution of all civil / structural designs associated with the various projects and operations within the Continental Africa Region. The incumbent will be required to coordinate the instrumentation design function accros mutliple projects in the Continental Africa Region as well as to set design standards and lead the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) companies to achieve effective and efficient designs
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide Design solutions for the projects within the Continental Africa Region by:
- Review and approve electrical design criteria
- Ensure relevant AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) / International standards are applied in the design process
- Verify design outcomes against applicable standards and accepted engineering practice
- Build a network of professionals that can perform reviews and verify critical design criteria and critical designs
- Build and maintain relationships with the various EPCM companies
- Develop and maintain design standards. Ensure that design standards are implemented across the portfolio
- Review design budgets and advise the project managers accordingly
- Communication between different disciplines (mining, metallurgy, geology and environmental)
- Facilitate / conduct or participate in Project reviews, Hazops, Design Safe, Constructability reviews and risk assessments
- Ensure that the project deliverables are in-line with the AGA product matrix for each phase of a project.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Tertiary qualification in Electronic/Instrumentation Engineering from a recognised institution.
- 8+ years industry experience
- Registered as Professional Engineer (or similar) at a recognised institution (eg ECSA)
- Sound knowledge of Instrumentation / PLC Design discipline
- Experience in the planning and execution of designs as part of large scale projects
- Good understanding of mining and plant environments
- Good facilitation, presentation and communications skills (verbal and written)
- A track record of achieving deadlines, planning and execution of project activities
- Competency in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint software.
