Context
The Global Trade Policy Team consist of 3 people and is responsible for managing multiple negotiations to unlock value and to ensure that there are no outcomes that could negatively impact our business. The team is increasingly called upon to coordinate international diplomatic efforts, seek government advocacy support, and unlock specific trade barriers or disruptions. You will report to the Head of Global Trade and Regulatory Affairs based in Brussels and, with the existing Global Trade Affairs Manager, you will form an integral part of the global trade policy team.
Role
Your main responsibilities will be to:
- Support Head, Global Trade and Regulatory Affairs, Global Trade Affairs Manager and Brussels based colleagues in delivery of key aspects of Diageo’s international trade strategy, monitoring trade-related public policy developments and building relationships with key external stakeholders;
- Following issues in specific geographic areas across the international trade agenda, including regulatory development, trade negotiations, and enforcement;
- Actively member of Diageo’s delegation on key industry-specific and broad-based business and trade associations;
- Review proposed regulations and standards to ensure compatibility with international standards and to avoid regulatory barriers to Diageo’s international trade;
- Support Brussels-based team on external facing events.
Profile
- Master degree in a field relevant to the public affairs arena (e.g. public policy, government affairs, law or economics);
- Around 3 years’ international trade experience;
- Experience in managing public affairs issues in government or industry;
- Strategic thinker, with familiarity and reasonable knowledge of international trade rules and Agreements (e.g., WTO, Free Trade Agreements, etc.) preferred;
- Advanced communications capability. Ability to diplomatically persuade others and advocate on behalf of Diageo’s corporate positions;
- Experience working in multilingual/multicultural environment;
- Mastery of written and spoken English. Proficiency in other languages would be desirable.
Location
Brussels but with ongoing travel as required.
