The Livestock and Irrigation Value-Chains for Ethiopian Smallholders (LIVES) project is an initiative designed by ILRI, IWMI (the International Water Management Institute) and their Ethiopian partners to enhance income and gender equitable wealth creation for smallholders and other value chain actors through increased and sustained market off-take of high-value livestock and irrigated crop commodities. It will design and implement interventions to improve market orientation of semi-commercial farmers for enhanced competitiveness, sustainability and equity in value chains in four regions of Ethiopia.
The positions: ILRI is recruiting 10 (Ten) Zonal Coordinators positions who will be based in Central Tigray, Eastern Tigray, North Gondar, West Gojjam, South Wollo, Jimma, West Shewa, East Shewa, Gamo Gofa and Sidama zones where LIVES Project will be present.
MAIN DUTIES:
- In consultation with regional coordinator, contributes to Regional and Zonal planning in value chain and service interventions:
- Provides technical assistance for planning and implementation of studies and development interventions at Zonal and District level;
- Organizes zonal learning and partnership linkages in support of selected value chain development;
- Builds capacity of service providers in approaches and value chain interventions through formal training courses and coaching;
- Leads and organizes capacity building of farmers on selected value chain commodities through formal training and coaching;
- Leads data collection activities for Monitoring and Evaluation and research at zonal and district levels;
- Be responsible for preparing formal reports on all zonal activities to regional coordinator;
- Contributes towards communicating research to different types of audience in his/her respective zone;
- Trains supervisors & enumerators to implement data collection for the diagnostic surveys, action research, and impact assessment activities for the priority commodities;
- Plans and organizes zonal workshops on experience sharing of commodity value chain development;
- Plans and organizes study tours, field visits etc. within the zones and across zones for value chain actors and service providers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
Education:
- MSc in Livestock, Irrigated Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development or related field
Experience:
- At least Five years’ experience in agricultural and rural development activities; some research experience advantageous
- Experience in capacity building skills
- Experience in data collection and handling
Skills:
- Understanding of value chain concepts
- Good communication, partnership and interpersonal skills
- Good command of the English language, both written and spoken
- Good report writing skills
- Computer literacy in MS Office
- Experience in managing survey teams in the field
- Excellent mobilization, organization, facilitation and problem solving skills
- Initiative and ability to respond creatively to challenges
Duty Station: Central Tigray, Eastern Tigray, North Gondar, West Gojjam, South Wollo, Jimma, West Shewa, East Shewa, Gamo Gofa and Sidama (one for each zone)
Grade: 3A Level 2
Minimum Base salary: Birr 17,106.00
Terms of appointment: Initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.
The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. Dining and sports facilities are located on site.
