INTELLIGENCE MANAGER
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine seeks to employ a dedicated, self motivated and highly organised Intelligence Manager to work from the Dar es Salaam office but with extensive field work required as part of the function. Through the development of intelligence sources the incumbent will support the investigation, detection and prosecution of persons committing criminal acts against the employees or assets of the company, and to assist the site to implement appropriate strategies to prevent future losses.
As a qualified Intelligence professional, the Intelligence Manager will develop and implement initiatives to detect large scale theft and fraud activities across the four mine sites and centralised support functions in Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg. Operations will be conducted under the direction of the Corporate Investigations Manager in conjunction with the Corporate Director of Security African Barrick Gold. The Intelligence Manager will abide by the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Lead the Asset Protection/Intelligence Unit (APIU) function within the African Barrick Gold business unit.
• Development of a Regional Asset Protection Intelligence Strategy.
• Development and implementation of a time bound plan to deliver the strategic objectives.
• Development of staff under line management.
• Develop training inputs for the wider relevant audience.
• Development and implementation of intelligence gathering projects to detect theft and fraud activities across ABG’s operations in Africa.
• Develop productive relationships with outside agencies.
• Oversee field activities designed to detect theft and fraud activity.
• Ensure good governance of financial and human asset management.
• Assist with investigations as directed by the General Counsel, ABG.
• Assist the Global Internal Audit group on an ‘as needs’ basis.
• Provide timely high quality written assessments and reports.
• Ensure compliance to corporate standards and procedures and in particular the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree in a security/law enforcement related field and a minimum of 10 years practical experience in the security or law enforcement, or;
• A tertiary diploma in a security/law enforcement related field and a minimum of 15 years practical experience in the security or law enforcement
Experience Requirements:
• At least 15 years professional experience in a similar security/law enforcement role to the APIU and proven performance delivery in this field.
• Experience with risk assessments and risk management;
• Experience in managing Human Intelligence Sources;
• Experience in managing Covert Operations;
• Experience in the management of information and intelligence;
• Experience in developing security strategies and plans;
• Experience with mining operations;
• Experience in implementing security standards;
• Experience with business/security operations in developing countries
• Experience in transferring departmental objectives into business deliverables
• Formal training in conducting investigations.
• Formal training in intelligence operations
• Experience with surveillance techniques.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Kiswahili language skills would be an advantage.
