Serengeti Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd largest beer company with a market share of 17%. It is an integrated demand/supply business with 2 operational breweries in Dar and Mwanza, and a third one being built in Moshi, which is situated in the northern part of the country near the Kenyan border. SBL’s flagship brand is Premium Serengeti lager, which accounts for 85% of SBL sales volumes. The other beer brands are Uhuru and Kick. In addition SBL produces and markets Vita-Malt.
SBL’s 2 fully operational breweries in Dar es Salaam and Mwanza have a combined capacity of 1 m Hls. The 3rd brewery with a capacity of 0.5m Hls is under construction in Moshi and is expected to be ready for operations in H2 of F11.
Purpose of the role:
Provide strategic leadership to brewing department to achieve best in class status by being accountable for the brewing team and all losses.
- Lead the brewing department by developing monthly production and plant maintenance schedules, developing brands recipes that deliver value to our consumers in terms of quality and cost, laying strategies to achieve the budgets, coaching and growing the team by evaluating performance, coaching and developing the brewing staff and identify training needs and provide training to all staff to enable them acquire desired skills. Responsible for evaluating brewing SAB users performance and training them where necessary.
- Responsible for all beer cost and quality coming out of the brewery, ensuring that the beer volumes delivered are meeting the market demand. Ensure brand availability at the lowest cost and highest quality. The product should be safe and of the right quality.
- Ensure that the ISO 9002 quality system is in place, develop and implement safety and risk mitigation plans and establish and maintain formal environmental and occupational health and safety management systems that shall ensure effective management and continual improvement. Ensure compliance with safety requirements at the work place.
- A honours Bachelors degree in Science or Engineering
- Post-graduate Diploma in Brewing and/or AME Diploma from IGB (Master Brewer level)
- At least five (5) years management experience in a Brewing or Packaging Industry.
- Experience in food or drink manufacturing environment, management of people performance and development and Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety in the food or drink manufacturing industry
