Organizational Setting |
The Department of Nuclear Energy, under the management of the Deputy Director General for Nuclear Energy, comprises the Division of Nuclear Power, the Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology, the Planning and Economic Studies Section, the INIS (International Nuclear Information System) and Nuclear Knowledge Management Section, the IAEA Library and the Programme Coordination Group. The Division of Nuclear Power provides core engineering, technological, human resource development and management support to interested Member States in the field of nuclear power. The main objectives are: to respond to the needs of interested Member States in improving their national nuclear power infrastructures and programmes and to evaluate the need for possible replacement technology within the country; to act as a catalyst for innovation and to assist, as appropriate, in the resolution of scientific and technological issues in the area of nuclear power, including electricity generation and other uses such as desalination and hydrogen production; and to manage, preserve and further enhance nuclear expertise and knowledge, competence and effectiveness in support of Member States, and to sustain the IAEA's unique position as the leading global international organization in the nuclear field. The Nuclear Power Engineering Section is one of two sections in the Division of Nuclear Power and is responsible for planning and executing the IAEA's programme on engineering and management support for competitive nuclear power. The main objective of the programme is to strengthen Member States' capabilities for enhancing the reliability and competitiveness of nuclear power with due regard for safety. The relevant subjects are: nuclear power plant life management, including decommissioning; continuous improvement of performance; an integrated management system; human resource development, training and qualification of personnel, including competence development and knowledge management; construction technology and the management and modernization of instrumentation and control systems; and implementation of the Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) database. |
Main purpose |
As a member of a team reporting to the Head of the Nuclear Power Engineering Section, the Training Specialist ensures a results-oriented programmatic response to Member States' priorities by organizing training programmes, workshops and technical meetings, preparing state-of-the-art reports on nuclear industry personnel development, including SAT-based training and qualification, manager development, HR systems and training development in relation to assistance and advice given to Member States. |
Role |
The Training Specialist (Nuclear Power) is: (1) a specialist in all aspects of human resource development and training, including e-learning of nuclear facilities; (2) a technical officer, arranging and conducting activities required for the successful and timely publication of technical documents, as an outcome of tasks in the field of human resource development and training of nuclear facilities under his/her responsibility and as defined in the IAEA programme; (3) a scientific secretary, planning and leading moderately complex technical meetings, and; (4) a partnership builder, establishing, developing and maintaining an international network for nuclear industry managers, HR and training specialists to share and discuss issues related to personnel training and HR development in the nuclear industry. |

The Training Specialist ensures the overall coordination of Member State experts participating in network activities by planning and implementing nuclear power training activities and facilitating the sharing of information and experience among network participants. He/she organizes communication and exchanges on project-related matters among all the countries participating in the network. He/she also has a key role in facilitating the sharing of experience and transfer of knowledge in the field of human resource development and training in nuclear facilities. He/she is responsible for coordinating projects and activities related to advanced training methods and their application (including e-learning). |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $56 018 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $36 524*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
