DIRECTOR GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
JOB SUMMARY
The Director General serves as Chief Executive of VETA and he is overall in charge of the day to day administration of the affairs of the Authority in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Vocational Education and Training Board.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
Legal compliance
Assures adherence and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Mission, policy and planning
Helps the Board determine VETA values, mission, vision and short and long-term goals.
Prepares and implement the strategic plan of the Authority. Prepares, recommends, and facilitates policy making.
Keeps informed of developments in human services.
Provides leadership on organizational strategic and operational direction for positive performance of the Authority.
Management and administration
Provides general oversight of all VETA activities, manages day to day operations and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient organization.
Assures program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures and regular evaluation.
Assures a work environment that recruits, retains and supports quality staff. Assures process for selecting, developing, motivating and evaluating staff including ensuring that appropriate salary structures are developed and maintained.
Specifies accountabilities for management and evaluates performance regularly.
Ensures strategic and operational objectives are attained at National, Zonal and Centre levels.
Enhances Team work and ownership of VETA.
Governance
Works with the Board Chair to enable the Board to fulfill its governance functions and facilities the optimum performance by the Board its committees and individual Board members.
With the Board Chair, focuses Board attention on long-range strategic issues.
Manages the Board’s due diligence process to assure timely attention to core issues.
Financing
Promotes programs and services that are produced in a cost effective manner, employing economy while maintaining an acceptable level of quality.
Oversees the fiscal activities of the organization including budgeting, reporting and audit.
Works with the Board to ensure availability of adequate financial resources to support short and long term goals.
Public relations
Facilitates good corporate image through integration of VETA into the fabric of the public using effective marketing and communications activities.
Acts as an advocate, within the public and private sectors, for issues relevant to VETA and VET system.
Assures public awareness of VETA and VET System response to prevailing demands.
Serves as chief spokesperson for VETA assuring proper representation of VETA to the Public.
Initiates, develops, and maintains cooperative relationships with key stakeholders.
PROFESSIONAL/VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
Holder of Masters Degree in any of the following fields or equivalent: Engineering; Business Administration; Agriculture; Tourism; Social Sciences; Human Resources; Finance.
RELEVANT JOB EXPERIENCE
Six (6) years experience in senior managerial position in a large organisation
Age Limit:
Should not be above 50 years old.

Attractive remuneration package in accordance with the Institution’s salary scale
