The African Export-Import Bank, “the Bank” (www.afreximbank.com) is a pan-African Multilateral financial institution established in 1993, for the purpose of financing and promoting intra and extra African trade. The Bank is headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, with regional offices in Harare, Abuja, Abidjan and Nairobi. The Bank seeks to appoint an Executive Vice President to assume overall responsibility for supervising the business development and corporate banking activities of the Bank. The Position
The Primary purpose of the role is to provide executive oversight and leadership for all matters which impact on the business origination and development, corporate banking, research and knowledge management activities of the Bank, and to manage, motivate, and develop a high-performing team of professionals focused on delivering these activities.

The Candidate
The candidate must be a national of an African state, with sound experience of at least fifteen years in international trade finance with special emphasis on the African continent. Demonstrable management experience and achievements, at board level, within a commercially-oriented financial institution is essential, as is experience of engaging and building rapport with a wide range of high level stakeholders in both government and the private sector in Africa.

To command the respect of senior government officials, African and international bankers, and CEOs of major corporates involved in trade in Africa, the candidate must have a good knowledge of African financial systems and African economies and a keen awareness of the challenges of and opportunities in the continent. Previous experience of providing effective risk management oversight across all types of risk that may arise at customer/ product interfaces is mandatory. Broad experience in managing research and its use in corporate strategy delivery is essential. The ability to communicate and function effectively in a culturally diverse and change-oriented environment is also required, as is previous experience of successfully leading and managing highly skilled multi-disciplinary and multi- cultural teams of professionals to deliver an organisation’s business objectives.

The appointment will be made by the President & Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank, from candidates selected for shortlist interviews, which will be conducted either at the Bank’s headquarters in Cairo or a suitable venue in London. The salary and other items of remuneration are commensurate with those of an executive with similar responsibilities in a comparator international organisation, in addition to diplomatic immunities and privileges upon accreditation by the host country government.
