Serengeti Breweries Ltd (SBL) operates exclusively in Tanzania and is the 2nd largest beer company with a market share of 25%. SBL is a subsidiary of East Africa Breweries Ltd (EABL) – which is in turn partly owned by one of the world’s biggest alcoholic beverage companies, Diageo. The company is an integrated demand/supply business with 3 operational breweries in Dar Es Salaam, Mwanza, and a third one in Moshi, which is situated in the northern part of the country near the Kenyan border. SBL’s flagship brand is Premium Serengeti lager, which accounts for 50% of SBL sales volumes. The other beer brands are Tusker, Guinness, Tusker Malt, Kick and Pilsner. SBL also boasts a portfolio of exciting Spirits brands such as Baileys, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, J&B and Gordon's Gin just to name a few.
SBL has 3 fully operational breweries in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Moshi with a combined capacity of 1.3m Hls. Moshi has a capacity of c600khls per annum and a scope to expand to more than 1 million in F14.
• This role will enable the business delivery the customer service dimensions of SBL strategy by creating a holistic and seamless interaction for SBL Customers and facilitating total OTC alignment between Customer, Sales teams, Commercial Finance and ABSC, with a primary focus on Customer issue resolution and perceived service enhancement.
• Analysis and reactiveness are key dimensions of the role. The Credit Risk Manager will determine what the right payment plan is for a customer, negotiate to that outcome persuasively; advise management on collectability, credit levels, payment terms etc, manage KYC and perform short-term forecasting on collections and potential cash crunches. This approach keeps key decisions re credit risk management and agreeing how to deal with defaulting customers in the market which would be aligned with the global-approved Symphony task split and governance requirements.
• Analysis of customer payment and ordering patterns to pre-empt issues of credit, stock or cash shortage
• Identify common themes/root cause of customer issues such as incentive processes, cash clearance times, and lead to resolution
• Regular face to face customer contact to review credit and understand how we help each other in joined up business planning in this area
• Monitor the Sales Ledger balance and aged debt profile and pro-actively manage timely cash receipts and the DSO target achievement, working through the credit control team in ABSC to achieve this
• Management of reclamation of goods in the event of account closure, own the interaction with receivers for settlements
• Provide insights and spot potential credit risk early in order to avoid losses
• Escalation point for non-routine customer engagement and statement queries
• Review of KYC forms
• Ensure CARM controls adhered to and provide support on GAR/KPMG Reviews
Qualifications and Experience
• 5 Years experience working in customer facing service roles
• Degree level with strong academic record
• Highly numerate / strong analytical skills / comfortable with detail but able to interpret detail for senior stakeholders
• Strong systems skills (SAP in particular)
• Strong understanding of Diageo Global processes (OTC & Data)
