We have an exciting and challenging vacancy for a Research Fellow/Lecturer in Medical Statistics to join the scientific team of a research programme on the epidemiology and control of HIV and other diseases of public health importance in Mwanza, Tanzania.
This research is carried out in collaboration with the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) in Tanzania. The collaborative research programme in Mwanza is recognised as one of the leading international centres for HIV prevention research. The post holder will be employed as an academic member of staff of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and will be based full-time in Mwanza.
The successful applicant will be a member of the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU). The Unit has been established by LSHTM and NIMR as a centre of excellence in the conduct of GCP-compliant clinical trials. The main responsibility of the post holder will be to provide statistical support in the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials, epidemiological studies and community-based interventions carried out by MITU and its collaborators; and to contribute to training and mentoring of other statisticians working in MITU or NIMR Mwanza Centre.
Ideal applicants will have a postgraduate qualification in statistics, practical experience of working as an applied statistician, experience of data analysis, experience of teaching or delivering professional training, and excellent managerial and communication skills.
The initial appointment will commence on 1st February 2014 for 18 months. This overseas collaborative programme is long-term in nature and further extension of the position is possible subject to confirmation of funding.
The appointment will be made on the LSHTM Research Fellow/Lecturer scale with a starting salary between£36,018 and £48,129 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Additional overseas allowances and benefits will be provided as appropriate.
