The Institute of Social Work is one of the institutions of higher learning in Tanzania which was established in 1974 by Act No. 26 of 1973 (as amended by Miscellaneous Act No. 13 of 2002). The Institute is under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and is located at Kijitonyama in Dar-es-Salaam. The Institute was established to provide qualified human resources for strengthening social welfare services delivery system in Tanzania. It is accredited with the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) as an institute of higher learning to conduct training programmes in the fields of social work, industrial relations and human resources management.
20.1 ASSISTANT LECTURER – COMMUNICATION SKILLS – (2 POSTS)
20.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in lecturing and tutorial seminars,
• Work in cooperation with senior member of staff on specific projects such as research and consultancy,
• Supervise student’s projects,
• Setting examinations, invigilating, marketing and timely production of examination results,

20.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Master of Arts either in Education or Information Studies with background in Communication Skills for Arts and Social Science, Linguistic, English structure, morphology, General Phonetics, Intonation, Semantics and Pragmatic; with GPA of not below 3.5 in Bachelor of Arts with Education with background in Communication Skills for Arts and Social Science, Linguistic, English structure, Morphology, General Phonetics, Intonation, Semantics and Pragmatics from any recognized Institution.
• Teaching and research experience will be an added advantage.

20.2 ASSISTANT LECTURER – RESEARCH – (1 POST) LABOUR STUDIES
20.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

20.2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Master’s Degree in Sociology or any related Social Science discipline with specialization in Social Science Research Methods, Quantitative Research and
Qualitative Research Methodologies; with at least GPA of 3.5 in Bachelor of Sociology or related Social Science discipline with specialization in Social Science Research Methodologies, knowledge of Industrial Relations, Social Protection and International Labour Standards will be an added advantage.

• Master in Labour Studies/HRM/Sociology with specialization in Industrial Relations, Social Protection, Trade Unionism, Mediation, Social Dialogue and Industrial Psychology; With at least GPA of 3.5 in Bachelor of Industrial Relations/Labour Studies or Sociology with specialization in Industrial Relations, Social Protection, Trade Unionism, Mediation, Social Dialogue and Industrial Psychology

Knowledge of Psychotherapy or Developmental Psychology will be added advantage, with GPA of not below 3.5 in undergraduate degree with Applied Psychology or Education specialized in Educational Psychology from any recognized institution.

With GPA of not below 3.5, in Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Advanced Diploma in Social Work with specialization in Social Protection, Child Protection Welfare Services.
