The College of African Wildlife Management - MWEKA was established by an Act of College of African Wildlife Management No. 8 of 1964. The college offers programmes in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Tourism and Tourism Hunting.
1.1 PRINCIPAL PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER I – (1 POST)
1.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Edits press materially ready for publication
• Approves radio/Tv programmes for the College.
• Analyses and responds to public criticism and complaints
• Manages production and distribution of calendar, cards and posters.
• Handles protocol & travel arrangements for the College dignitaries
• Responsible for managing public relations functions of the College
• Plans, organises and implements marketing, marketing research and marketing development
• Overall co-ordination of presentations and management of all College publicity activities
• Conducts research and consultancy
• Co ordinates preparations and manages budget of the Public Relations Unit
• Prepares programmes for promoting and enhancing the good image of the College
• Ensures close liaison with the press
• Writes and edits College Publicity materials and press releases
• Performs monitoring and evaluation of the College Public relations Unit
1.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Master Degree either in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations and Mass Communication or any other relevant disciplines from a recognized institution
• At least nine (9) years of working experience in the relevant field
1.1.3 REMUNERATION
• Attractive remuneration package in accordance with the Institution’s salary scale. PGSS 20
1.2 SENIOR RANGER I – 1 POST
1.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Patrols study area to suppress poaching, vandalism and bush fires,
• Receives orders to apprehend, and evict violators of wildlife laws and regulations in the study area.
1.2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Advanced or Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education with Certificate in paramilitary or ranger operations from a recognised institution,
• At least three (3) years of working experience in the relevant field.
1.2.3 REMUNERATION
Attractive remuneration package in accordance with the Institution’s salary scale PGSS 6 -7
1.3 ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY – (2 POSTS)
1.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide assistance to executives of the college,
• Undertakes routine correspondence with prior approval of responsible officers,
• Types letters both open and confidential,
• Attends telephone calls and taking messages,
• Arranges transport to officers,
• Manages Officer’s appointments,
• Performs office management duties,
• Drafts letters as may be directed by her/his officer,
• Attends to visitors and handles appointments,
• Receives, writes and files all classified letters and other important letters.
1.3.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with Diploma in Secretarial Studies from a recognised institution,
• At least seven (7) years of working experience in the relevant field.
1.3.3 REMUNERATION
• Attractive remuneration package in accordance with the Institution’s salary scale PGSS 14
1.4 SENIOR BIODIVERSITY TECHNICIAN I – (1 POST)
1.4.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Dries, treats, mounts and stores specimens for the purpose of training, research and museum
• Demonstrates to students, applications of field/laboratory/herbarium/ taxidermy techniques
• Prepares equipment and materials for practical training
• Assists Lecturers in setting, invigilating and marking practical examinations
• Inspects, cleans and locates specimen displays and equipment
• Keeps records of specimens and replaces old or damaged plant, cultural, mineral resources and animal specimens
• Maintains accurate arrangements and records of plant and animal specimens
1.4.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor Degree (NTA 8) in Wildlife Management or Biodiversity Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution,
• Must possess skills in herbarium, taxidermy and oesteology management and biodiversity and cultural resources identification, preservation and management
• At least seven (7) years of working experience in the relevant field
1.4.3 REMUNERATION
• Attractive remuneration package in accordance with the Institution’s salary scale PGSS 12-13
