Duties and Accountabilities:
1) Poverty analysis
The poverty analysis work includes Poverty Assessments, shorter Poverty Notes, research papers, analytical contributions to the semi-annual Economic Updates, and other analytical products. The Senior Poverty Economist collaborates with a team that he or she oversees to produce this work. Topics for this work are determined by the Senior Poverty Economist in consultation with the Lead Economist/Sector leader.
2) Statistical capacity development
The Bank has a statistical capacity building Project in Rwanda. A substantial task for the Senior Poverty Economist will be supervising the Project. The Senior Poverty Economist's role will also include providing technical assistance to the Rwandan government in this area.
3) Monitoring and evaluation
The Senior Poverty Economist has a variety of responsibilities related to M&E. These include providing feedback and guidance for Poverty Reduction Strategies and related monitoring reports, and providing M&E assistance to client and Bank operational teams.
4) Analytical support in micro-economic and poverty analysis to client and Bank country teams
The Senior Poverty Economist also serves as an analytical resource to the broad client and country teams. This includes providing data, contributing analytical work to ESW work in other sectors, and providing analytical inputs as needed to other client and Bank country teams.
The Senior Poverty Economist is also expected to provide leadership to the broader team working on poverty analysis in other countries with the sector unit (AFTP2) and to collaborate with colleagues on regional initiatives such as the Listening to Africa phone survey program and regional ESW work.
5) Social Protection analysis and policy
The Senior Poverty Economist will also cover issues related to the analysis of the poverty impact of social protection policies, such as incidence analysis of subsidies, and will interface with the Human Development (HD) sector on the analysis of appropriate social protection policies.
