Summary of Responsibilities:
The Conflict and Gender Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Governance Projects Manager. He/She will support the mainstreaming of both gender and conflict sensitivity, data and contextual analysis, build capacities of both the team and the local communities, lead the relevant thematic interventions and support the Community Development Officers in the programme implementation. The programme will be initially implemented in Burtinle district (Nugaal)
Specific Responsibilities
• Ensure and support mainstreaming of both gender and conflict sensitivity within the programme and its activities. Apply and advice on Do No Harm. • Carry out community conflict and/or gender assessments • Lead capacity building activities and trainings on gender and conflict issue • Lead capacity building activities on gender and conflict within the communities as per the programme workplan and methodology • Support community mobilization activities including community meetings, trainings and/ or workshops; Support and strengthen village institutions.
• Promote and support community participation and inclusive participatory processes • Monitor, analyse and advise supervisor about overall security information in project locations. • Compile timely and regular progress and circumstantial reports as required. Compile and maintain relevant data on partner communities. • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

General Responsibilities • Understand and adhere to IRC's established policies and procedures for administration, finance, procurement, safety and security management, and project management. Report any violations to appropriate IRC authority • Adopt personal and professional conduct, which conveys IRC's mission & mandate; liaise with all national and international counterparts and maintain regular contact with them. • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications: • Bachelors degree on Gender, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, Conflict/Peacebuilding Studies, Politics, Community Development, or related field. Specific training on community peacebuilding and/or gender in post-conflict settings strongly preferred. • At least 3 years experience in similar functions, preferably at the community level in rural areas of Somalia • Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali • Practical knowledge of participatory community development principles and practices, including participatory planning, monitoring, and evaluation • Excellent computer skills (database, spreadsheet, and word processing software) • Experience working in insecure environments on politically/socially sensitive topics. Willingness to frequently travel to the field.
