University of Cambridge -Department of Pathology
Salary: £26,004 - £30,122 pa
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a degree in biological or social sciences who can provide organisational and administrative support for the Cambridge component of an Africa capacity building programme. This new programme, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, is known as CAPREx (Cambridge Africa Partnership for Research Excellence). There are two African partners involved: Makerere University in Uganda, and the University of Ghana, Legon. The CAPREx Carnegie Coordinator will liaise with the African partners and Cambridge Committee to competitively-select 10 early post-doctoral and mid-career researchers from Ghana and Uganda each year. These fellows will then be matched to appropriate Cambridge mentors, and the CAPREx Carnegie Coordinator will support them throughout their fellowships (whether they are in Africa or visiting Cambridge). Focal subject areas for fellowships will be biological sciences and engineering (for Ghana), and social sciences and humanities (for Uganda). The CAPREx Carnegie Coordinator will also oversee the training to be provided (particularly the 2-4 week training sessions in Cambridge) to research management and administration staff from both Ghana and Uganda each year, with support from the Cambridge Research Operations Office. Furthermore, the Coordinator will facilitate and support the CAPREx Carnegie Programme in developing joint Africa-Cambridge collaborative research initiatives, projects and networks.
The Carnegie CAPREx Coordinator will be based at the Department of Pathology, supervised by Professor David Dunne or his nominee. However, (s)he will be expected to connect with several other Cambridge researchers across the University who are interested in collaborating with African researchers.
