Kenyatta University wishes to recruit qualified and dedicated applicants for vacant positions in the following offices:

1. OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
Deputy Registrar (Planning & Strategy)-Grade 14
Applicants should be holders of Masters Degree in Strategic Management / Planning /Project Management from a recognized university. They must have worked in a Senior Administrative position in a busy organization for at least five (5) years and be computer literate. Those with Ph. D Degrees in the relevant area will have an added advantage.

2. DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE (Finance Planning and Development Division) i. Project Manager (Grade 13)
Applicants must be holders of Bachelors Degree in Building Economics/Quantity Survey/Construction Management/Architecture/ Civil Engineering.

In addition applicants must have the following:

       Registered with the relevant professional body and have a minimum of five (5) years post-registration experience in a project management capacity and all aspects of project planning, development and management.
       Computer  literacy  and strong  familiarity  with  project  management  software,  such  as
Microsoft Project and reporting software programs.

       Demonstrated experience in Personnel Management.

       Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
       Post-graduate qualification will be added advantage.

The  project  manager  will  be  employed  within  a  design  and  build  contract  arrangement.
He/she will be deployed as the Principal Site-based Representative of the Project Implementation Committee.


ii.      Assistant Project Manager-Grade 12
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelors Degree in Building Economics/Quantity Survey/Construction Management/Architecture/Civil Engineering.

In addition applicants must have the following:

       Registered with the relevant professional body and have a minimum of three (3) years post-registration experience in a project management capacity and all aspects of project planning, development and management.

       Computer literacy and strong familiarity with project management software, such as Microsoft project, and reporting Software programs.

       Demonstrated experience in Personnel Management.

       Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environment.
       Post-graduate qualification will be added advantage.

The Assistant Project Manager will be employed within a design and build contract arrangement.


iii.      Site Clerk - Grade III/IV
Applicants must be holders of KCE Div III/KCSE D+ (plus) and above.

In addition the applicants should have the following:

       At least three (3) years work experience.

       Kenya Accountant & Technician Certificate (KATC) Part 1
       Records Management Certificate

       Certificate in Computer Applications

       Current certificate of Good Conduct

v.              Store Clerk - Grade III/IV
Applicants must be holders of KCE Div III/KCSE D+ (plus) and above.

In addition the applicants should have the following:
       At least three (3) years work experience.

       Kenya Accountant & Technician Certificate (KATC) Part 1

       Certificate in Procurement and Supplies
       Certificate in Computer applications

       Current certificate of Good Conduct

4.  DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE (Administration)
i.            Secretary  - Grade A/B
(Mombasa, Kitui, Embu, Ruiru, Nyeri, Migori, Nakuru, and Parklands campus)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C and above. They must also have a credit or Grade C and above in English.

In addition, the applicants must have the following:

       Type writing speed of 50wpm
       Shorthand speed of 100wpm

       Office practice II

       Office management

       Business English III

       Evidence of computer literacy

       At least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy organization.

iii.          Clerk Typist  - Grade  III/IV

(Mombasa, Kitui, Embu, Ruiru, Nyeri, Migori, Nakuru, and Parklands campus)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ (plus) and above. They must have a certificate in Office Management and Type writing speed of at least 40 wpm. They must also have a minimum of three (3) years working experience and be computer literate.



4.  SCHOOL OF LAW
i.            Senior Administrative Assistant - Grade E/F
Applicants must be holders of Masters in Business Administration. In addition the applicant should have a minimum of three (3) years work experience. The Senior Administrator will be required to carry out the following duties:
       Ensure requests for funds by grantees comply with agreed budget

       Assist grantees to develop periodic and final project financial reports that comply with donor requirements

       Support an internal M&E function to ensure proper management and smooth implementation of grant projects

       Maintaining an efficient system for tracking project budgets; proactively detecting and preventing problems in budget management

       Responding to any queries from donors regarding financial reports

Applicants with experience of operations of donor organizations and donor funded projects would be valuable.

ii.      Administrative Assistant – Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of Bachelor Degree from a recognized university. Candidates with additional qualification in Management, CPS or equivalent will have an added advantage. In addition the candidate must have the following:

       Proof of Computer literacy

       At least three (3) years relevant post qualification working experience in a busy organization preferably in an institution of higher learning.

iv.             Secretary - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C and above. They must also have a credit or Grade C and above in English.
In addition, the applicants must have the following:

       Type writing speed of 50wpm

       Shorthand speed of 100wpm
       Office practice II

       Office management

6.  SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS
Areas of specialization
Candidates should be able to teach at least any two (2) of the following electives:
     Public Finance
     Monetary Theory and Policy
     International Economics
     Health Economics
     Financial Economics
     Economics of Industry
     Agricultural Economics


•  Environmental Economics and Labor Economics

i.      Professor (Main Campus)
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the relevant area from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:
    Twelve (12) years of university teaching as lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor

     Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and at least two (2) PhD students since being appointed Associate Professor

     At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
     Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops

ii.      Associate Professor (Main Campus)
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the relevant area from a recognized university.

In addition applicants must have the following:
•  Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as  full time Senior Lecturer
Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and one (1) PhD student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer
     At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as Senior Lecturer

     Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Senior Lecturer.

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iii.      Senior Lecturer (Main Campus)
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree from a recognized university in the relevant field from a recognized University.

In addition the applicant must have the following:
•  At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as  full time Lecturer
     Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer
     Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master students
     Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer.

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iv.      Lecturer (Main, Kitui, Mombasa, Nyeri and Nakuru campus)
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the relevant area, from a recognized university or have successfully defended Ph. D thesis and should be able to teach Microeconomic Theory, Macroeconomic Theory, Economic Statistics and Mathematics for Economists.

In addition, applicants must have at least three (3) years full time university teaching as Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer

v.      Tutorial Fellow (Main, Kitui, Mombasa, Nyeri, and Nakuru Campus)


Applicants must be holders of Masters Degree in the relevant area from a recognized university.

In addition applicants must have the following:
     At least a second upper in Bachelors Degree
     Prepared to pursue Ph. D Degree in the area of specialization
     Ability to teach Microeconomic Theory, Macroeconomic Theory, Economic Statistics and Mathematics for Economists and at least any two of the earlier listed electives.

6. SCHOOL OF APPLIED HUMAN SCIENCES
Department of Community Resource Management & Extension
Candidates should be able to teach at least any two (2) of the following electives:

       Community Development and Extension

       Project Planning and Management

       Family and Consumer Sciences
       Development studies

       Community Advocacy & Mobilization

       Community Resource Management

ii.          Senior Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the relevant field from a recognized University.

In addition the applicant must have the following:
•  At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as  full time Lecturer
     Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer
     Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master students
     Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer.

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

ii.      Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the relevant field from a recognized university.
In addition, applicants must have at least (3) years full time university teaching as Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer.

iii.      Tutorial Fellow
Applicants must be holders of Masters Degree in the relevant area from a recognized university.

In addition, the applicants must have the following:

     At least a second upper in Bachelors Degree

     Willing to pursue a Ph. D Degree.

7. SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES a) Department of Gender & Development Studies
i.      Professor
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the field of Gender & Development from a recognized university.


In addition the applicant must have the following:
    Twelve (12) years of university teaching as lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor

     Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and at least two (2) PhD students since being appointed Associate Professor

     At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
     Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops

ii.      Associate Professor
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the field of Gender & Development from a recognized university.

In addition applicants must have the following:
•  Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as  full time Senior Lecturer
Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and one (1) PhD student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer
     At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as Senior Lecturer
     Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Senior Lecturer.

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iii.      Senior Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the field of Gender & Development from a recognized University.

In addition the applicant must have the following:
•  At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as  full time Lecturer
     Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer
     Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master students
     Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer.

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iv.      Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in field of Gender & Development, from a recognized university or have successfully defended Ph. D thesis.
In addition, applicants must have at least three (3) years full time university teaching as
Tutorial Fellow or Assistant Lecturer.

v.      Tutorial Fellow
Applicants must be holders of Masters Degree in Gender & Development.

In addition the applicants must have the following:
     At least a second upper in Bachelors Degree.
     Be willing to pursue a Ph. D Degree.


b)  Department of History, Archaeology and Political Studies

i.            Professor

Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree or its equivalent in the field of Political Science/History from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:
    Twelve (12) years of university teaching as lecturer and above, at least five (5) of which as full time Associate Professor

     Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and at least two (2) PhD students since being appointed Associate Professor

     At least four (4) articles in refereed journals, since being appointed as Associate Professor
     Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Associate Professor

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops

ii.      Associate Professor

Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree or it’s Equivalent in the fields of Political science/History /International Relations from a recognized university.

In addition applicants must have the following:
     Eight (8) years of university teaching, four (4) of which as full time Senior Lecturer
     Successfully supervised at least four (4) Master students and one (1) PhD student, since being appointed Senior Lecturer

     At least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed as Senior Lecturer
     Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Senior Lecturer.

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iii.      Senior Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of Ph. D Degree in the field of political science/ History
/Archaeology from a recognized university.

In addition the applicant must have the following:
•  At least five (5) years of university teaching, three (3) of which as  full time Lecturer
     Three (3) articles in refereed Journals since being appointed Lecturer
     Successful supervision of at least three (3) Master students
     Evidence of applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as Lecturer.

     Evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching
     Evidence of attendance and contribution at learning conferences, seminars or workshops.

iv.      Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of a Ph. D Degree in Archaeology/History/Political science /Peace and Conflict Management.
In addition the candidates must have full – time university teaching experience as a Tutorial
Fellow or Assistant Lecturer for at least three (3) years.


v.      Tutorial Fellow
Applicants must be holders of a Masters Degree in Archaeology/History/Political Science/
Peace and Conflict Management.
In addition applicants must show evidence of teaching at University level. Successful candidates will be expected to teach and pursue Ph. D degree in the relevant field.

a)      For those candidates applying for Political Science & International Relations any of the following three (3) areas will be considered:
       Public Administration

       Political theory and political Psychology

       Scientific method of Political Enquiry

       Comparative Politics

       International Public Law

       International Political Economy
       Foreign Policy

       Geopolitics

       Trends in international Relations

       International Environmental Politics

b)      For those candidates applying for Peace and Conflict Management any of the following three (3) areas will be considered:
       International legal Treaties

       Conflict Management and Resolution

       Theory and tools of conflict resolution
       Strategies in conflict Resolution

       Peace and International Politics

       Arms control and proliferation.
       Role of International Interventions

c)      For those candidates applying for Archaeology any of the following three (3) areas will be considered:

       Environmental Archaeology
       African Archaeology

       Cultural Resource Management

       Heritage

       Development

       Museum Studies

d)     For those candidates applying for History any of the following three (3) areas will be considered:
       Philosophy of History

       Gender Studies

       Political Economy



8. SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM
Technical Staff - Grade A/B (Main and Mombasa campus)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C (plain) and above and a
Diploma in either Food and Beverage Management OR in Catering and Accommodation Management from a recognized institution with at least three (3) years work experience in the related field.

9. KENYATTA UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
i.      Assistant system librarian - Grade C/D
The applicant must be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer
Science or Library and Information Science with an option of Information Technology from a recognized institution and KCSE mean Grade C+ (plus)/ KCE division II and above.

In addition the applicant should have the following:

       Be skilled in Databases, Network Administration, Website authoring tools like HTML, Apache, MySQL, Perl and Linux.

       Have the ability to administer Library Management System (KOHA) and other related software used in the Library such as Dspace and Greenstone.
       Have at least two (2) years experience in a computerized Library.

       Be a team player and able to communicate effectively.

       Be computer Literate.

ii.      Library Assistant Grade C/D (Special Needs)

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution and KCSE mean Grade C+

(plus)/ KCE division II and above.

In addition applicants must have the following:

       Knowledge in adaptive technology such as a Dolphin pen, Winbraille and Duxbury.
       At least two (2) years relevant post qualification working experience.

iii.             Library Assistant Grade C/D

Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution and KCSE mean Grade C+

(plus)/ KCE division II and above.

In addition applicants must have the following:

       At least two (2) years relevant post qualification working experience.
       Have worked in an automated academic library.

11.   KENYATTA UNIVERSITY DISABILITY SERVICES (KUDSO)
i.            Sign Language Technician - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCSE mean Grade C (plain)/KCE division III and above. In addition they must have an Ordinary Diploma in Sign Language and Interpretation.


They must have experience in the following areas:
       Preparation of hearing aids

       Servicing audiometers


       Taking audiograms during class demonstration

       Make ear moulds
       Doing collaboration of machines

In addition the applicant must be proficient in sign language and interpretation for public address.

ii.      Braille Technician - Grade  A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCSE mean Grade C (plain)/KCE division III and above. In addition they must have an Ordinary Diploma in Braille Writing and Interpretation.

In addition the applicants must have the following:
       Competence in Braille maintenance and repair is essential.

       Knowledge and skills in the teaching of orientation and mobility to persons with visual impairments.

       Computer literacy.

       Knowledge in use of Braille embosser.

Braille proficiency in any foreign language will be an added advantage

11. KENYATTA UNIVERSITY ACADEMY Preschool Teacher - Grade III/IV

Applicants should be holders of KCE Division IV/KCSE mean Grade D+ (plus) and above in addition to a Certificate in Early Childhood Development from a recognized institution.

The applicant must have the following:
       At least three (3) years teaching experience after training.

       Ability to work with minimum supervision.

       Ability to handle children who are between the ages of two and a half and six years.

Those who wish to be considered for Part time teaching in any of the advertised areas may also apply. They should specifically indicate so.

Applicants should indicate the campus which they would wish to be stationed at for posts which have that option.

Terms of Service:
The terms of service includes a generous medical scheme, house allowance and commuting allowance. Successful candidates for post of Lecturer and above will be permanent and pensionable, for post of Tutorial Fellow will be offered one (1) year renewable performance based contract, non – academic posts for Grade 1 – 10 will be offered two (2) year renewable performance based contract and gratuity will be given at the end of the contract.
