ICAP Curriculum Design Specialist – Nursing Education

Under the direct supervision and guidance of the ICAP Associate Director of Nursing, the ICAP Curriculum Design Specialist – Nursing Education will lead in the development of pre-service nursing and midwifery curricula for use by educational institutions across approximately 6 sub-Saharan African countries.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Work with nursing and midwifery educational institutions to design pre-service curricula, including identifying program outcomes, developing competency statements, writing course objectives, selecting appropriate learning activities and choosing appropriate clinical experiences.
• Ensure that planned curricula reflect institutional philosophy and mission, current nursing and health care trends, community and societal needs, and education principles, theory and research.
• Develop teaching strategies based on education theory and evidence-based practices related to education, as well as the consideration of learners’ cultural backgrounds and past educational, clinical and life experiences.
• Use information technologies to support the teaching-learning process.
• Use assessment and evaluation strategies to evaluate available resources for learner assessment and evaluation, select appropriate assessment instruments, analyze assessment and evaluation data, design tools for assessing clinical practice, create assessment instruments to evaluate educational outcomes, and use assessment and evaluation data to make recommendations for enhancing the teaching-learning process.
• Recommend evidence-based resources to improve and support teaching.
• Conduct visits to country programs and supported educational institutions to provide technical assistance.
• Perform other related duties, as directed.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires international travel of at least six (6) trips per year with each trip lasting approximately 10 days.

EDUCATION

• A Master’s degree in Nursing with a major emphasis in nursing education .

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum three (3) years of experience in teaching/instruction at an accredited college of nursing.
• Experience in curriculum development and revision in nursing/midwifery education.
• Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills and ability to foresee problems and initiate appropriate action.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal English).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Power Point, etc.).

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Doctoral degree in Nursing with a major emphasis in nursing education, preferred.
• Experience in nursing education in sub-Saharan Africa.
• French language skills desirable but not required.
