To meet its evolving training performance needs, the GICHD seeks to hire a Curriculum Development and Training Specialist to develop standard curricula for at least two of its current training streams as well as to develop an overall strategy for effective implementation of training throughout the organisation.
Examples of the current portfolio of the GICHD’s mine action training workshops include: Contracting, Liability and Insurance; International and National Mine Action Standards (IMAS and NMAS); Information Management; Mechanical Demining; Design, Monitoring and Evaluation; Technical Survey; and Quality Management.
Key Responsibilities
The Consultant will be responsible for the:
- overall design and formulation of curricula for at least two of the GICHD’s current training packages (eg Monitoring and Evaluation; Contracting); and
- development of an implementation strategy for the Centre’s training programmes.
Specific responsibilities include:
- reviewing existing and past GICHD training materials (including slides, pre- and post-workshop forms, assessment forms);
- liaising with relevant GICHD staff to identify key training demands/needs, expectations, challenges and shortcomings;
- designing and developing training curricula (eg, session learning objectives, materials for trainers and participants) for selected subject matters, as well as a general, organisation-wide training approach (eg, a ’how to guide’ to developing new training modules); and
- ensuring gender and diversity issues are appropriately reflected in all materials and methodologies.
Future Initiatives
Following an internal assessment on the outputs of the activities above, the GICHD may decide to further engage the incumbent to:
- develop a general methodology for ‘training trainers’, based on the needs and specifications of relevant advisors and section heads;
- design an e-learning component for select training courses;
- provide additional assistance to section heads and relevant advisors in the development of course material as deemed necessary;
- develop standard assessment methods to be used in all GICHD training courses and workshops.
Profile Requirements - Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Relevant degree in training, adult education, international development, international communication, or related field, and at least five years' experience in designing training materials and delivering training services, such as training programme development and planning, and training session design;
- Experience designing and delivering training for non-native English-speakers;
- Experience in e-learning instructional design methodologies and tools; at least two years experience in the design and evaluation of online learning courses; experience using instructional design software;
- Demonstrated experience in organising and facilitating training sessions, as well as working with subject matter experts to develop training activities;
- Knowledge of learning and training evaluation methods, and demonstrated experience applying training evaluation tools to assess training courses of different subject matter.
The candidate should have strong communication and organisation skills as well as knowledge of development, humanitarian or conflict and security issues.
The candidate should be fluent in English, including the demonstrated ability to write. Knowledge of French and other languages is desirable.
