AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.
Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
We are now seeking a number of graduates to join the Mining Department at the Tropicana Gold Mine. This is a 2 year graduate program based on the first 2 years of the AusIMM Graduate Program Guidelines. This includes the field work pre-requisites for a Western Australian Quarry Manager Certificate of Competency.
Accountable to the Mining Manager, this role reports to a nominated supervisor depending on the specific work being performed. This role provides an uncommon opportunity to be a part of a construction phase team at a large open-pit gold mine from the ground up. This role is based at Tropicana Gold Mine on an FIFO Roster of 8/6 or 2/1 depending on work being performed. Field work component will involve night shift duties.
The tasks of the role typically include but are not limited to:
- Open pit field experience
- Health, safety, risk and environmental assessments
- Mines rescue
- Geology practical time
- Survey practical time
- Mine planning and design
- QA/QC
- Mine Dispatch
- Drill and Blast
The ideal candidates will possess:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous mining experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent level of computer skills including; Microsoft Office Excel and Word
- C Class Driver's Licence
- Completed 4 year Mining, Civil or Geotechnical engineering degree recognised by the AusIMM
