Office of Legal Counsel provides legal advice and representation services and acts as a deposit to ensure the legal aspects of decision-making and compliance with the Constitutive Act of the African Union and all existing legal instruments.
1. Occupation:
Title: Director of the Office of Legal Counsel.

Unit: Office of Legal Counsel.

2. Tasks and responsibilities:
1) assist the Commission and AU organs and provide advice on legal matters.
2) the provision of legal opinions relevant to the interpretation of all the protocols and rules of the African Union in addition to other legal instruments.
3) assist the Commission President to do to sustain itself as a deposit of all the treaties in addition to all other legal instruments of the Union and to save copies of the international conventions signed between Member States.
4) assess the legal effects of the activities and decisions of all deliberative bodies and advisory, administrative and participate in its meetings.
5) the formulation of phased out and the host country agreements and cooperation agreements and rules of procedures for the various devices, treaties and other legal instruments in addition to the preparation of electoral documents, including the tools and the level of the Executive Council and the Conference.
6) the representation of the Commission and all organs of the African Union in litigation, negotiations or other procedures related to the completion of the conclusion of agreements or settlement of disputes.
7) ensure the smooth performance in the Administrative Court and the representation of the President.
8) follow up on issues related to implementation of headquarters agreements and host countries.
9) confirm and ensure respect for the privileges and immunities of the Commission and its staff and representatives accredited to it and protect it as it is stipulated in the agreements Headquarters and the General Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the African Union.
10) follow up on issues relevant to international legal issues.
11) to ensure the organization of interactions between the legal organs of the Union and the Member States and other organizations, individuals and other legal entities, as that protects the interests of the African Union.
12) conduct investigations and prepare reports on specific legal problems.
13) ensure the management of the office in general, including the preparation of budgets and programs and their effective implementation, as well as supervision of staff and performance tuning.
14) perform any other functions that are mandated.
3. Educational Qualifications: You must have a university degree candidates (Master's degree or equivalent), in international law, public or private and / or the law of international organizations. It can accept a degree on the first level university degree combined with a mixture of professional qualifications and experience in international law and that rather than top class. It is advisable to enjoy the membership of the Bar of a Member State or otherwise of the qualifications of legal practice.
4. Experience required: Candidates should possess relevant practical experience of not less than 10 years, and must be 5 years of which at least in the function of senior management.
5. Other relevant skills:
Knowledge of public law, and in-depth knowledge of international law and comparative constitutional law, the analytical skills of legal problem-solving skills, negotiating skills, legal drafting skills, research, policy analysis and development, organizational skills, communication, advocacy and management, computer literacy, management experience and skills excellent interpersonal communication and ability to organize and motivate others and work in a multicultural environment.
6. Languages required:
Get inside one of the working languages of the African Union (English, French, Arabic, and Portuguese), is the knowledge of one or all of the other languages an advantage. .
7. Age Requirement:
Preferably ranging between 35-50 years old.
8. Period of appointment:
Appointment is based on a fixed-term duration of three (3) years, twelve months will be the first of which was a period of testing after the contract is for two years and be renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
