UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine seeks to employ an experienced Underground Construction Coordinator. The incumbent will primarily be responsible to assist with the logistics of moving materials and equipment underground and to monitor all daily on site activities of multi discipline construction projects and report any discrepancies related to construction safety, schedule and changes in scope of work or materials.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide team leadership by developing and implementing strategic planning on capital projects to ensure employees and contractors achieve their full potential
• Facilitate the effective coordination of construction activities underground and on surface by ensuring general site safety and risk management control is implemented
• Implement employee performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance, and initiate appropriate action to remedy substandard employee performance or behaviour
• Ensure all construction activities are conducted in a safe and zero risk manner
• Systematically and continuously review every aspect of the departments activities to ensure that opportunities to add value are identified and implemented
• Contribute to the BGML management team to ensure that targets in respect of employee productivity, safe work, cost management and corporate governance are achieved and the Barrick core values are demonstrated
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• Trades or Blasting Licence qualification in underground mining, maintenance or construction
Experience Requirements:
• Seven years underground mining experience with at least 3 years supervisory experience
• Work experience in Africa or a developing country that requires systematic coaching and training of employees would be an advantage
• Demonstrated experience in coordinating construction functions including the provision of effective support to employees through the development of a highly skilled owner’s team
• Sound knowledge of mine safety regulations and best practice
• Proven accuracy and organization of work
