Description: | As the essential link between the Headquarters of IMA World Health and specific programs and projects in Southern Sudan, the Senior Program Officer is responsible for organizing and coordinating the technical, administrative, logistical and managerial support for project implementation and program development. This position will serve as a primary contact between the field offices and headquarters, and will be expected to keep both the HQ and S. Sudan Office informed of all important achievements, issues and concerns. The responsibilities include monitoring the progress of current projects, providing assistance with work plan development, participating with the finance officer in the preparation and management of budgets. This position provides technical support to and back stops IMA World Health’s programming efforts in Southern Sudan. In addition, the incumbent will support the preparing of proposals and assessments, communicate with donors, partners, sub-contractors and consultants as needed.The Senior Program Officer works as part of the Program Team to meet field needs for program development and technical support. May also be required to provide technical assistance to program activities in other locations as needed. |
Duties: | 1. Back stop the Southern Sudan projects by providing support to the Country teams in the management of grant funds and sub-agreements by assisting in: • Work plans • Annual budgets in consultation with finance officer. • Ensuring regular technical and financial reporting. • Monitoring project expenditures and advising the VP of Programs of significant variances. • Keeping HQ and field Office in sync . 2. Monitor progress of project objectives and maintain regular contact with staff/consultants by email, skype and phone. Provide support and address issues by visiting each field office at least once per year. Inform VP of Programs of progress, issues challenges and concerns. 3. Ensure adequate reporting to donors by reporting on time. • Support the Business Development foorts of IMA by keeping HQ and field staff informed of new information from donors relating to grant responsibilities. This includes: maintaining the Library; conducting internet research and subscribing to relevant Web-list serves; and attending relevant workshops and conferences to learn about best practices. 4. Collecting information and supporting preparation of proposals for future projects. 5. Engage in representation, networking and cultivation of relationships with partners, technical donors and other organizations. 6. Establish leadership and personal credibility while implementing and maintaining a clearly defined and understood chain of authority and accountability. 7. Represent IMA World Health at professional conferences; enable publishing and presentation of accomplishments in professional fora. 8. Organize program-related workshops, meetings and/or events. 9. Participate in development and/or review of training materials where applicable and/or as needed. 10. Responsible for report preparation for Project/Program related technical briefs for internal and external communications. 11. Humanize the program by lifting up the impact on individual lives through stories and photographs from the field. Facilitate the transfer of human interest stories from the field to the Resource Development Team of IMA World Health. 12. Responsible for documenting lessons learned and innovations of the project. 13. Other duties as assigned. |
Qualifications: | 1. Master’s Level Degree in health or related field with MPH desired. 2. Minimum of ten years experience working in international public health. 3. Living and working in a developing country highly desirable. 4. Strong English writing skills and analytical abilities. 5. Second language fluency highly preferred; additional language skills also helpful. 6. Experience working with professional and support staff in a multicultural, multi-linguistic environment. 7. Experience in working with government and NGO/FBO/CBO sectors. 8. Experience with Community Health programs a plus. 9. Cross-cultural sensitivity a must. 10. Able to travel a minimum of 13 weeks annually. 11. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Internet fluency a plus. 12.
