Iringa International School (IIS) is working with Aarsleff/BAM International to set up a multi-age classroom for the families of Aarsleff/BAM staff who will be building the highway to Sumbawanga, in beautiful southern Tanzania.
Iringa International School is a non-denominational, non-profit community school located in Iringa town. We are a Cambridge Examination Centre and a Candidate school for the IB Primary Years Programme. Aarsleff/BAM International is a joint Danish and Dutch coalition, with employees from many different countries.
The multi-age class teacher will be provided with their own housing in the newly-built Aarsleff/BAM compound which is 45 km from Sumbawanga town. The compound will also house the class room as well as recreation facilities, including a swimming pool and tennis courts. (At the moment, the class room and housing is ready, more is still being built)The school is considered a satellite of Iringa International School and will be open to other families in the Sumbawanga area, if any are interested.
The projections are that there will be just one class, with about 6 students from 4 families. According to Aarsleff, the students are between 4 and 9 years old. The road company is providing all of the resources needed for the classroom, and IIS will support with both PYP curriculum and home school curriculum resources. IIS will also include the teacher in any professional development opportunities that occur during the year.
The road-building project is expected to last 2-3 years. The school year would start September 1st, 2011. In addition to housing, Aarsleff/BAM will cover annual travel costs to and from Sumbawanga, all work permit and visa costs, medical insurance (which must be purchased by the teacher, then reimbursed) and a shipping allowance is negotiable. The monthly salary will be between $1750 and $2100 per month, and will be tax free.
