Bioversity International is now seeking a:
Genetic Resources Policy Specialist
The Genetic Resources Policy Specialist will be based at Bioversity’s Headquarters in Rome, Italy and will report to the Head of the Policy and Research Support Unit. He or she will contribute to Bioversity’s research and capacity building agenda by:
ô€¹
Coordinating national and sub-regional level research and capacity building projects concerning genetic resources policies focusing on, among other things, the implementation of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, working closely with partners in sub-regional and national organizations;
ô€¹
Monitoring international-level genetic resources policy making processes, (examples include: the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and preparing of technical inputs to those processes;

Conducting research on the impact of policies on the conservation and use of genetic resources;
ô€¹
Supporting other Bioversity scientists to integrate policy-related research and awareness raising activities in the projects they are coordinating;
ô€¹
Carrying out other related duties as required.
Profile
Qualifications and experience:
ô€¹
Applicants with an advanced degree in law dealing with genetic resources-related policy are preferred. Applicants with a doctoral degree in economics, political science, plant breeding or genetics will also be considered if combined with relevant research in policy.
ô€¹
At least 5 years’ of experience, with progressively higher levels of responsibility, working on policy and law-related issues related to genetic resources for food and agriculture, including experience in international settings.
ô€¹
Experience working with partners in national agricultural research programmes.
Skills and abilities:

Proven ability in genetic resources policy-related research, supported by a track record of relevant publications.
•
Demonstrated ability to design and manage multi-stakeholder projects.
•
Excellent English, both written and spoken.
•
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact, collaborate, and build relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
•
Effective managerial skills, with strong results orientation.
•
Availability to travel extensively.

Terms and conditions: This is an internationally recruited position. Bioversity International offers an attractive remuneration package including a competitive salary, non-contributory retirement plan, medical insurance, housing allowance and leave provisions. All benefits are denominated and paid in US Dollars. The initial contract will be for a period of three years subject to a probationary period of one year.
