Africare, a US based Private Voluntaryorganizalion headquartered in Washington D.C, is seeking applications for a qualified person to fill the position of Livelihood and Capacity Building Officer for the"Micro-Enterprise Development Initiative (MEDI) project.
Position Description
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Livelihood and Capacity Building Officer will be responsible for implementing MEDl's micro-enterprise
activities, which are expected to improve livelihoods and household resilience for communities surrounding the Bulyanhulu gold mine site. As
one of the core implementing team members, the Livelihood and Capacity Building Officer will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Community Mobilization
Engage community members and existing economic groups lo participate in MEDl's activities.
Form/ strengthen saving and internal lending community (SILC) groups and income generation activities (IGA) groups, through community
resource facilitators (CRF).
Orient SILC groups on use of SILC social funds and household savings plans.
Conduct inspirational events that will transform mindsets of beneficiaries to undertakeviable micro enterprises.
Sensitize beneficiaries to access health services througl1_~egistration with Community Health Fund (CHF) scheme
2. Livelihood and Micro-Enterprise
Support beneficiaries to identify and establish market driven micro-enterprises.
Engage selected entrepreneurs to develop value chains for selected horticultural crops, poultry, diary, bee-keeping, and other high value
cropsto meet market demand. ' •
• Assist beneficiaries to prepare competitive business plans that respond to market opportunities.
Link viable businesses with financial services for accessing loans at affordable rates.
Facilitate registration of micro-businesses and IGA groups at district/ national level.
3. Capacity Building:
Assess capacity building needs for entrepreneurs, communities, LGAs and CSOs.
• Train SILC group members on group dynamic, leadership, financial literacy, formal banking, business acumen, and entrepreneurship skills.
• Mentor, coach and provide technical support to IGA groups
Develop comprehensive package of business development modules.
• Coordinate incubation support to potential busines~~'.l.
Minimum Requirements
Degree (Entrepreneurship, Agro-business, Economics, Rural Development)
3 years of experience in working on livelihood, micro-enterprise, poverty reduction and sustainability issues.
Ready to work independently in remote areas.
Fluent in English and Kiswahili - oral and written.
Experience in technical report writing and presentation of report writing.
