Qualifications: A Minimum-of three Cambridge A-level subjects completed with at least C grade or higher attained (English Mandatory) OR IB Diploma with a minimum overall score of 27, including a subject score of 4 or higher in English as Language A or B.
Experience:
3 years' experience in an International School setting.
Purpose of the Role:
To effectively assist teachers in improving student learning and wellbeing at Geita International School from (Age 3 -12) using the IPC (International Primary Curriculum) and aspects of the British National Curriculum
Main or Key Accountabilities:
Be punctual and wear appropriate attire to school
Be aware of all health and safety producers, and act accordingly with regards to student safety
Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
Prepare lesson materials as required by mentor teachers.
Maintain the schools noticeboard
Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using methods discussed prior to lesson.
Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
Help supervise students in classrooms, school yards, and on field trips.
Conduct demonstrations to teach such skills as sports, dancing, and handicrafts.
Distribute teaching materials such as textbooks, workbooks, papers, and pencils to students.
Distribute tests and homework assignments, and collect them when they are completed.
Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
Mark home-works and tests, and compute and record results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices .
Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress
Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress or problems.
Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids such as posters, PowerPoint presentations, charts, and graphs.
Prepare lesson outlines and plans in assigned subject areas, and submit outlines to teachers for review.
Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, or those who have English as a 2nd language.
Laminate teaching materials to increase their durability under repeated use.
Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories, and assist students with hardware and software use. .
Provide younger/less able students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.
Type, file; and duplicate materials as required or as directed by the Headteacher.
Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
The proper use and management of equipment and facilities of the school.
Contributing to and attending extra-curricular activities and functions such as sports days, galas, concerts and other activities that fall outside of normal working hours as required for the full functioning of the school.
Leading at least one afternoon activity in per week
Attending all staff meetings.
Attending all Teacher/Parent meetings.
Extra teaching and support of less abled learners outside of regular classroom time as required or as directed by the Head teacher.
Utilizing the schools and his/her own resources to actively read up on, and where appropriate incorporate effective pedagogy into their teaching. '
To actively take part in the school's/GGM's Appraisal process.
Stock taking of resources as required or as directed by the Head teacher.
Additional Requirement
Excellent command of the English language.
The ability to coach sport and swimming and/or teach dance, music and drama.
